i noticed that whenever i get a smallmouth, it usually has red eyes like a rock bass. one thing about hybrids, dont you guys ever notice that a rock bass has similar characteristics of a sunfish and bass??
Regardless of what you call’em, they fight hard and are fun to catch, especially on light line.

mean mouth would be a good name, fact is, apparently there may be hybridization going on in jocassee between multiple bass species, spots and redeyes, redeyes and smallmouth, hybrids with both.
So is this new hybrid called a Jocassbass ?
Some who have view this video suggest that the larger fish is itself a hybrid, cross between a true redeye and spotted bass, and is mating with the smaller smallmouth bass.
Factual evidence through scientific testing shows that bass species will cross breed.
A redeye bass is also a rockbass. A warmouth my look like a red eye but it is not due to different physical features. red eyes dont always have red eyes. and warmouths prefer different habitat then red eyes hence the other name rock bass. Need to know? Look at the state of ohios dept. of nat. resources web site etc.
Pretty sure that “redeye bass” is a warmouth. Bluegill have a small flap or “ear” that extends beyond the gills. Neither of these fish is a bluegill.

I’m from the NorthWest and have never heard or seen a Redeye Bass. Is it a type of Bluegill? I wish I lived down South cause Bass fishing here is hit and miss, plus LG Bass rarely get over 6lbs here cause the water only stays warm for a couple of months in the summer. Trout fishing here is pretty good though, but they don’t fight like bass!
