me and my friend want something to do on a winters day.we want to go fishing for bass, catfish, and whatever .wh?
we arent going to bring the boat out.we just want to fish from the dock or bank.what are the chances we will catch anything.or whould we just look like a bunch of retards.and how long will t take for the fish to bite.

You should be able to catch catfish and bream. I really doubt that you will catch any bass. Bass really hate cold water and will make them very sluggish to the point that they may not feed until the water warms up alot. Bass will not feed if the water is in the low 50s. Like I said you should be able to catch catfish just cast and wait for a bite….you know the drill. Bream usually bite all year long but in the winter they tend to go deeper in the water. Just look for them by casting and moving to different spots until you find them. Try fishing up to 15 to 20 feet depending on how cold the water is where you live. hope I helped.
well I first have to disagree with David on that one. You’re best bet is probably going to be Bass and Crappie. I Bass fish a lot in 30-40 degree weather and normally do quite well although if you can’t get to any good cover you may have some trouble. Bring your jigs, Rattle Traps, and crankbaits for the Bass. And remember fish VERY slow. They’re not going to want to chase down baits like they will in warmer waters.
Crappie are another good bet like I said. A simple floater with a Crappie Jig will pull these guys out. Have several different colors of your jigs handy if possible. The depth of the water is going to tell you how deep to fish. I like placing my floater 3 feet up my line to start out at then go a little deeper and deeper until I find out what depth fish seem to be. If you don’t already know how to fish them, it’s not hard. Find you some cover and cast right into it. Let your floater sit then twitch a few times. Repeat that all the way in. I like waiting 4 or 5 seconds this time of year between my twitches.
Btw, fish ALWAYS have to feed. Whether the water is 10 degrees or 100 degrees. You just have to be a bit more strategic and patient when fishing cold water.
I catch bass, bream, catfish, and even a few carp off the bank. Bream bite all day, bass normally dusk, and 30 min before daylight, is when they start, catfish mainly bite at night, and carp all day. But it depends on where you are, moon cycle, weather etc. And normally it is best to chum up the fish for a few days before fishing, unless the pond, lake, or whatever is really stocked full. I am not sure, but they might feed differently with fake bait, than the live bait I use, so if you are using gigs, or something they might bite differently.
