Modified Jon Boat
This is my Landau 1254 Jon Boat after I modified it. I put a front casting deck, a floor in the middle, installed lights, and a fish finder. It’s wider than most 12 ft Jon boats so it’s very stable when I fish from the deck. I put a hatch in the deck for storage and my trolling motor battery, I normally run either my 1958 or 1962 Johnson 10 hp motors, but I also put on my 3 hp, 5.5 hp or 18 hp Johnsons depending on where I’m going. It took a little under 8 hours to do the modifications it was well worth it and it actually makes the boat ride smoother and quieter.

Nice, But it looks to be needing a paint job soon.
@calebethd For a 12 footer? I’d have to say 10 or maybe 15 horse should be plenty big enough (if not too big). Unless you want to win a speed contest,……then its all out, I bet you could fit a 50 horse on there.
@calebethd I use mine on small to mid sized lakes, I would like to eventually get a 15-17′ aluminum bass boat or jon boat so I could fish bigger lakes and would probably want at least a 30 hp outboard.
How big of a boat and motor do you recommend for fishing on a larger lake?
okie dokie,,well good luck fishing and nice boat
@GLoomis11 Nope I keep the poles I’m not using behind me in the middle of the boat so they’re out of the way.
ever accidentally kicked a pole off in the water with the deck up that high? thats what im afraid of with my jon boat
Nice!
I used to have a 50 pound thrust minnkota foot troller. Things are sweet
@kawi3000 Yeah I also got a foot controlled trolling motor a month after I made this video too.
I see you got some rod holders from bass pro
I like the boat, i have a 10 footer though :/
@catfishing1990 Mines wider in the middle than most of the 12 footers out there I can even walk on the sides without worrying about it tipping and I weigh 225.
nice vid. i like the whole boat it’s very nice i have a 12 ft jon boat that im in the process of making a casting deck on the front but i can’t have my seat to high or the the boat will flip but i have to get the right higth for the seat and im putting a back deck on to cover the big gap there for like my batteries and etc.
@1431666 It rides kind of rough since it’s a flat bottom boat but it’s very stable when you fish from it.. I kind of wish i waited and got a modified v instead so you can get the best of both worlds.
how does the boat go on open water (lakes and deeper water) i would like to buy one for fishing but the water in my area is deep.
sorry for my bad english i ame dutch.
DANG! not a bad deal for $300. Very nice install.
Not really it took about 6 hours the hardest part was installing the carpet.
i like your fishing deck. I want to build one on a V hull boat. Was it hard??
The floor is just sitting in place, it’s kind of wedged in between the back and middle seat. The whole setup is built to be easily removed in case I ever decided to sell the boat.
Just had a question about the flooring…. is it just resing on top of the hull or is it screwed down to the ribs? I have a 12×32…wouldn’t be able to deck it out because its too narrow, but would like to put a floor in and a possible storage area.
Hopefully you’ll catch as many fish as I have caught on mine.
Yeah, me and my dad got a 10 Ft. for 200 at an estate sell
300 bucks man your were lucky to find a deal like that
300 dollars?! That was a steal…wish I could find that kinda deal around me…
Well, I know that! I was just saying that has got to be great.
That’s why I built it.
