Striped bass/BlueFish tackle?

I really want to try out some striped bass fishing from boat. I have only done this once and it was on a boat decked out with all offshore tackle and such. I have 2 generic ugly sticks, medium action, 7 foot and a 7’6 or 8 foot rod that is pretty thick, not sure on the make. I used it for pier/surf fishing. I also put on a brand new reel.
Im pretty sure the bigger one defiantly would be good enough but what about the ugly’s?

7 foot is a bit long for a boat but, still alright. Ugly sticks are freaking indestructible so if the pole breaking is worrying you, well, you don’t need to be worried anymore. Put on some 25 lb test and a variety of weights 2-8 oz in all different shapes.
