Three Great Lakes for Bass Fishing in East Texas

Three Great Lakes for Bass Fishing in East Texas

Fishermen come from all over the world come to East Texas to reel in the plentiful trophy Largemouth Bass. Make Longview, Texas the centrally located hub of your next fishing expedition and make sure you visit these three lakes for a truly memorable trip.

Lake O’ the Pines: Bring your boat along, of course. Most marinas charge a fee for boat launch; however, there are five ramps along with the other developed parks by the Army Corp of Engineers that offer free boat launch.

The fish species in Lake O’ the Pines include: Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Blue, Channel and Flathead Catfish, White Bass, Crappie, Sunfish and Chain Pickerel. The latest record for a Largemouth Bass was set in March of 2010 by Carl Clark using a Rat-L-Trap. His catch weighed in at 15.13 pounds.

Caddo Lake: This is a large natural lake that covers almost 29,000 acres and covers some of both Texas and Louisiana. Another impressive feature of this lake is the 42 miles of “boat roads”. This means lots of easy access for your angling dreams! Also at this lake in the town of Uncertain, you will find boat and canoe rentals, resorts, restaurants, lodging, marinas, lake and fishing guides and of course camping! Whew!

The most common fish species in Caddo Lake are Bass, Crappie and Sunfish. The latest bass record for the lake was set in March 2010 by Keith Burns. His Largemouth Bass weighed in at 16.17 pounds.

Lake Fork: This is one of Texas’s top 10 largest lakes and covers over 27,000 acres near Quitman, Texas. Much of the lakeside areas have not been logged or cleared and offers a more natural setting for your East Texas fishing excursion. There are regulations on Largemouth Bass in the lake and the largest, over 24 inches, must returned to the lake. Anglers are permitted to keep on Largemouth per day that’s between 16 and 24 inches long. The lake has an impeccable record of giant catfish and trophy bass.

The predominate fish species in Lake Fork are: Largemouth Bass, White and Black Crappie, Channel Catfish, White Bass and Sunfish. It’s time for a new Largemouth record at Lake Fork, the last one was set 1992 by Barry StClair who hauled in all 18.18 pounds of largemouth!

A solid bet for an extended fishing trip is to make Longview, Texas your home base and venture out to the many nearby lakes and rivers to explore and just maybe set the next big record!

Dawn Hatchard resides in Tyler, Texas.

You’re gonna need a solid used truck to haul your boat and gear!
