what is the best bass fishing rod for worms and rattle traps.?
i know that these are completly oppisite lures but i would like to purchase a single nice rod that i can use for both. i would rather have one for worms that is very sensitive because i already have a tenacity that i can use for rattle traps. i do have a boat and fish 3-4 times a week so i need it to be durable. pricerange is up to $160.00.
alright well i use a 5/8 ounce rattle trap but that works fine with my 6′ tenacity rod combo. i fish alot but don’t know a whole lot of brands and the three different types of material rods are made of. usually i use a tiny weight or weightless worm. i dont know the difference between finese and power could yo u clerify?

What size Rat-L-Traps are you going to be using? What size plastic worms and bullet weights are you going to be using? A good all-around sized rod for Rat-L-Traps & worms is going to be a 6 1/2 ft. medium or medium/heavy action rod. Are you more of a finesse-fisherman in clearer water, or a power-fisherman in dingy water? If you are more finesse than power i would go with a 6 1/2 ft. or 7 ft. medium-action trigger rod. If you are more about power a 6 1/2 ft. or 7 ft. medium/heavy action trigger rod will be better. This rod would be my personal pick ~ http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98314_100002006_100000000_100002000_100-2-6?ordProd=Y&CMID=BOTTOM_selectitems#itemDetail
But, the Shimano Crucial (http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74445_100002006_100000000_100002000_100-2-6?ordProd=Y&CMID=BOTTOM_selectitems#itemDetail) deserves some credit.
Alright. Easy enough question. If I were you, I would invest in a nice $100 Baitcast Reel from Bass Pro Shops. From there, I would look towards possibly an UglyStik 4ft-5ft rod cost around $50-$60. This combination works excellent. The reel/rod combo allows you to locate your bait accuratly, as well as being smooth. A word of caution however, a Baitcast reel takes practice, however, when you beome effective with them, they are the top reel to use for light to mid-light tackle.
My suggestions:
**The Bass Pro Products are among the best out there; dont just assume it is not good because it isnt a traditional brand name such as Berkely)
***Also note the most effective bass lure for me when I fish is a Crawfish; a natural prey of the Bass (Large and Small)
get a decent 6 or 6 1/2 foot baitcasting combo from cabela’s or bass pro shop. expect to spend in the neighbor hood of $150.00 or a little more for one that casts well and has a good drag.
the rod should be a 100% graphite medium action one rated for lines from 8 to 17lb., fill the reel with a good brand of 10lb mono like sufix siege or maxima (clear mono). this will handle the lighter lures common for finesse fishing and will also handle normal soft plastics as well as crankbaits and topwaters.
some might suggest a rod a bit heavier, but if you only want one, this combo will handle a good range of lures as well as about any bass or other freshwater gamefish.
spend the most your budget will allow. quality increases the more you can spend. one of these companys’ own brands of rod/reel will usually give more quality than trying to put together a national brand outfit for the same money.
Finesse fishing is more for light line(6-10lb test) and spinning tackle. You use smaller baits(like tiny or no weight) like shaky head worms or drop shot rigs. Finesse fishing is more used in clear water or when the fish are slow in biting. This usually calls for a slower retrieve and patience. Power fishing usually calls for heavier line and bait casting set up. Fan casting an area with your Rat-L-Trap would fall under this technique. It means more water is covered quickly with fast moving baits. Kevin Van Dam is commonly known as a power fisherman because he covers so much water with cast after cast. At times I will use a fast moving bait to locate fish and then switch to a finesse rig to pic them apart. As for you rod question I just got an All-Star 7′ med heavy rod from Dick’s for 60 bucks to use for crank baits and soft plastic and I love it.
The 5/8 ounce rattle trap is fine and works completely well…There are so many brands available and we have to use best of it…Bass gets attracted more towards lures such as plastic worms or flies…You can also shift your spot and use plastic worms for luring the bass from its hiding…
