When you get the boat stuck in a swamp…
…without a paddle. Heading for my secret bass fishing spot we got stuck in a thick swamp with some heavy weeds. We tried all kinds of tricks using the motor to back out, but nothing worked, plus we had a wind that kept blowing us in deeper. The prop would get clogged with weeds in no time and the engine was getting hot so we needed to find another way. All we had was some rope, many life jackets, a seat cushion and some poles that hold the cover up. I was going to try tying on the rope and somehow make my way to some kind of shore where I could walk, but as I went in I just kept sinking and getting tangled up in heavy weeds. I couldn’t get anywhere. After almost an hour of laughter & contemplating, the idea of a make-shift paddle came up (wife came up with that) and I got busy! Once we got turned around I was able to motor out of that mess. We later learned that the owner of the property at the end of that channel passed away some years ago and hardly anyone has been running boats through there to keep it cleared out. So much for my secret bass spot… the bass probably can’t even swim through that slop!
