Is it legal to fish for game fish (walleye, bass, etc) on the St. Croix before the season opens?

I’ve heard that since the St Croix River is a border river (Minnesota and Wisconsin Boarder) that it can be fished anytime of the year, regardless of whether the fish you’re fishing for is out of season. Anyone know for sure?

  • Dan B:

If it isn’t legal in Minnesota and Wisconsin to “fish for game fish…before the season opens?”, WHY would it be legal to fish on the river that runs between them under the same circumstances. This is a common sense answer that really doesn’t require a whole lot of thought to process out. Think about it.

  • Kabfisher:

Have some curtosy to the spawning fish. They want to have fish to.
