Can I substitute Halibut for Sea bass in a recipe?

I wanted to make a Seared Sea Bass recipe but found it’s extremely expensive. Would Halibut make a suitable stand-in? I’ve had Halibut many times before but not Sea Bass. The recipe calls for a crust to be put on and then it is pan-seared till cooked through.
Thanks in advance

  • www.the-perfect-turkey.com:

Yes halibut, snapper, and cod will substitute for sea bass.

Seafood watch also recommends Cobia (US farmed) or Sablefish/Black Cod/Butterfish (AK+, BC) as a substitute for Chilean Seabass/Patagonian Toothfish.
