Hmmm .. White Bass. Let’s start out with your rod, reel & line. For the rod, i would go with a 6 1/2 ft. ML action spinning rod, and for the reel i would want high gear ratio reel with a good amount of line retrieved a handle turn. For the line in the reel, i would fill the reel up with some 6 lb. Trilene XL.

Lures? One of the all-time best White Bass lures is the in-line spinner. Fish the warmer back waters with a 1/8 oz. Mepps Aglia (Here’s the link to the lure – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_2853____SearchResults?ordProd=Y&CMID=BOTTOM_selectitems#itemDetail) I would get a handful of these lures, mostly in the colors silver & gold. Don’t pass up on bait, either. Fishing a live crappie minnow is also effective for these panfish.

    Happy fishing.

Use the same bait your father did and fish it at the same depth and retrieve it at the same speed and results should be the same. But if I where you I would get a small tail spinner like the little george or something similar and a small crank bait and you should catch as many as your dad or more. Good luck!

spinning lures work well and worms. i have caught them on salmon eggs, i know it is weird but it did happen

I had this same problem many years ago. Another person would catch fish but I wouldn’t. It may be the acid in your skin being transferred to the bait. This was my problem. I washed my hands twice with soap and the fishing improved. There is something in the oil in your skin that makes the bait not attractive to fish. We fished 2 feet apart with the same bait. He would catch 4 to my 1.

Curly tail jigs, white, green doesnt really matter when the white bass are hitting. Cast to the banks and around brush and you might show him up next time.
