Anyone have any recommendations for some topwater lures for lake fishing(for bass)?

Tips for using them? Thanks, I’am totally new to hard baits like topwater lures.

Use a Rapala. Use it near cover. After twitching it, wait for all the rings to flatten out before twitching it again.

If you will be fishing at first light I would try a zara spook or a single blade buzz bait.if you are fishing around lily pads or weeds I would fish a frog bait. personally I use a scum frog from bass pro shop.you can also try the new minus baits which run just under the surface but have plenty of side to side action.good luck,

I’ve had lots of luck with most models of the Heddon Zara Spook. Long cast and Walk-the-Dog technique.

Lots of success with the Rebel Pop-R P70 model. Long cast and popping it. Basically a stop-and-go retrieve. Jerk the tip and the popper with of course, “pop” on the surface.

My dad uses Lobina Ricos a lot. They’re expensive, but the make very subtle bubbles when worked correctly. Bass go apeshit over them. Work it the same as a Pop-R, use lighter jerks when working them though.

I got my first topwater bass on a Storm Chug Bug. You can work it like a normal popper, subtle jerks of the rod tip to make it gurgle on the surface and you can also Walk-the-Dog with it.

Try poppers, i find that bass find them eresistable

I am not much of a topwater guy but when Bass are feeding on Shad near the surface a Green Perch 1/4-ounce Rebel Pop-R seems to work.

I prefer to slowly work a popper but walking-the-dog works sometimes.

Cigar-type topwaters such as the Zara Spook work well with the walk-the-dog retrieve.

floating rapalas work the best for me. I usually get the longer rapalas. Cast It near weed beds and near drop offs. They usually range from $5.00 to 7.00.

  • Josh:

Yes, use Rapala. I’ve used those many times and my best with them would hve to be my 21 incher that i caught up in Kalkaska, Mi.
