Braid is good when fishing extremely heavy vegetation, heavy cover, jigging in thick lily pads etc. MOST of the time braid is for the kind of stuff you feel scared taking your boat into. You can use braid for topwater, but only if you feel that you are fishing in thick stuff, or you feel that you might break mono or flouro. I use 14 lb trilene XT for popper and buzzbaits, but I use 50 lb braid for frogs because I only use them is really thick stuff.
