It depends on the color of the water. If the water is real murky and dirty you would be better off using something loud and shiny. A buzzbait would probably be your best bet, also topwater poppers and rattletraps worked real slow might produce in those situations.

Rising, cold, muddy, water is one of the HARDEST conditions to fish Bass.

A 1/4 OZ Spinner-bait with gold Colorado blades, and a bright chartreuse skirt would be optimum.

Spinner-baits cover water quickly and have a definite lateral-line enticing vibration.

Also, 6″ Husky Jerk Minnows in Perch colors work well, (esp worked quickly).

    The problem with rising water?

Bass will literally forage inside the tree line/swamp area and up into 6″ of water if they find good forage. Many times a fisherman can’t reach into the areas the fish are feeding, (but you can HEAR them; which is irritating! lol)

However, generally, most fish/Bass will stop feeding in rising water conditions until the water levels begin to “stabilize” somewhat.

Look in my “starred Q’s” for further info.

Hope this helps ya? Good luck!

I’ve had bass go nuts during high water. Buz bait was a hit.
