got any Carp fishing tips?

I fish in a small lake for bass sometimes. its about the size of a football field. But about 2 times each hour a huge carp jumps out of the water. This is really getting my fishing instinct kicking in and id take any information on bait tactics and rigging. especially rigging. (hook size ect.

  • I would say use a small, but strong hook. They have small mouths, but thick skin around it, so you need a sharp hook. Corn, bread, doughballs, etc., any of those will do. Check out some more carp tips here:

  • Axianaly:

    Nope. I wonder… hmmm now I’m curious! Lol. :)

  • Sara:

use large treble hooks with a sinker and try to snag thems, some times u can find where there laying, move in slow and pull the treble hook over their back and tug when hook is at the top of their back..or try using dough balls for carp..their big and move slow if u can find one in the shallows hook up a frog spear to the end of a broomstick ,

  • summer:

Use sweet corn on a treble hook if it is a grass carp.

Ok. Now open your can of sweet corn if you see a “swarm” of carp eating vegetation near the bank. let them eat some and then bait your treble hook an throw it out there. Hopefully you catch a prize.

As for regular carp they’ll eat about anything.

  • Smart Fisherman:

Try a medium sized hook (I would go with treble) and just thread corn on the hook. Also check if it is legal to chum in your state. If it is it is pretty helpful just to throw some corn on the top of the water.

  • Adam C:

treble hooks with corn works for me

  • Daniel:

i know it sound really weird but use oatmeal. if you hold a chunk of oatmeal about the size of a golfball, dip it in the water and mold it in your hand and put it on a catfish type or big hook you will catch carp without a doubt.

  • Revo:

Roll up a piece of bread. That works well for me.

  • PETER J:

go to in-fisherman.com.. they gave a whole section on carp.

sweet corn or night crawlers, on a #2 circle hook, 15 pound test to a swivel, about 7 to 10″.. another 12″ of same test, on it 1 to 1.5 or 2 oz. egg, no-roll, or pyramid sinker to another swivel to the main line.

7′ or greater rod, good reel.

reason- the long length rod to get the weight out.. carp are skiddish and see well- especially a boat.

the weight- when it is on the bottom, reel it snug against the lower swivel, then pull 6″ loose. when the carp takes the bait, they will run with it, the weight will slow the fish down, and the circle hook will do its job.

or you could use a “j” hook, instead of the circle ( use light wire for they have sensatine mouths. the circle is better- less chance of deep hook.) with the same bait, just use 1 swivel, between the weight and hook.
