How do I catch small mouth bass?

I live on the James river, and i have never had success fishing in it, i know that there are small mouth bass in it but i dont know how to catch them. I not only want to know how to catch them, but what techniques should i use in semi fast moving river with rapids. (lures etc.) for other kinds of fish

    live bait
    1. night crawlers
    2. bee moth
    3. crickets
    4. minnows
    artificials
    1. rooster tails
    2. platic worms
    3. spinner baits

    1. cast parallel to the bank
    2. let fast moving current carry the bait downstream back to you
    3. slow stop & go retreive
    a. cast let lure drop for a 30 count
    b. reel 1-2-3 stop- reel 123- reel 1-2-3 ect
    c. fish around any kind of structure- rip rap, rocks, fallen trees, stumps,
    d. fan cats the area you are fishing in an 180 degree arc at different depth until you find the fish- they are there!
    e. if one techniques is not working ,try another, different baits, different lures, different depths, soeed up or slow down retrieve.
    f. also when a fish strikes many ties they turn sideways to hit thier target.
    G. Go fishing , have fun- that is what it is all about.

I’m not much of a river fisherman but have found artificial crawdads work very well around large boulders. I’ve often work them like you would a plastic worm. Like I said I’m a lake fisherman so I don’t know if this will help. Good fishing.
