How would you approach Fishing an incredibly overfished Lake?

I have some awesome spots to fish but like at least 1,000 fisherman fish there a year and its a small lake. they fish all sides during all seasons and Its hard to catch anything there. anyone have any suggestions as far as lure or tips? I know they have some big bass but I think there is just too much pressure to waste my time fishing there.

  • betcha cant do it like me:

if its that overcrowded your best bet is to find another lake, but normally wen their are alot of people i like to go into the spots along the shoreline when most ppl are back in the shaded crivits of the lake.. becuase chances are if soo many ppl are in one spot the fish wil most likely be gone from the noise before a lure hits the water.. hope this helped

get very finesse with them keep the noise down and the casts really really long the fish are there but they are smart I like to size down to ultralight tackle or I fish very realistic baits on florocarbon line like tubes or plastic worms and jigs

I change my times and aproach to how and when fishing the lake I am on which is a very popular heavily fished small lake.Over 33 boats on today and the lake is only 110 acres!
    Fish slow!Lighter lines!Night fish!Mid day fish!Move deep!
I almost always catch fish on any lake anywhere no matter what!
I work baits more with subtleness and accuracy than just blind casting or try moving a lure fast so they have no time they just react!Yes I do agree as poster said finesse fish them I switch to my 4″ thin worm no weight unless deep water fishing. And use a jig n pig deep water style!Go to life like lures buzz frogs scumfrogs……..!
By the way it would take a week to go through all the things but just pick out tip and fish it until you learn the try a new one and do the same…!

Lighter Lines,(flurocarbon leader’s or Berkley 4/10). Different times. Smaller more “natural” lures. Slower retrieves.

If the above won’t work, go find the oldest K-mart or “development/Mall” in your town and fish in the retention pond that is nearby. If you live in a section of the US where the water in your lakes don’t “freeze solid” for months at a time, you WILL find a “honey hole” somewhere using this method. Drive around your town with 1 fishing pole in your car. If you see some “likely” water (and no “NO Trespassing” signs), stop and do some “experimentin”. I’ll bet you $100 there’s a “kick-@ss” retention pond with-in 5-10 miles of your home.

The Q is: How BAD do you want to catch good fish? Is it worth some of your free time to take a Sunday afternoon “Bass-scouting” mission?

FYI: A simple “plastic worm/weedless jig” is a great “search bait” for “scout’in” new retention ponds.

I’m surprised you didn’t want to add anything to my Q about “Tips for Bank-fisher-people”.? I consider you perty knowledgable about “shorefishing”. Shame.

use bigger than normal crank baits over size your lures big bass will eat big baits fish.
