Me and a Buddy are bass fishing, fish are jumping but were not catching, what gives? real details?

We have tried numerous baits, BuzzBaits, Rat L Traps, Poppers, Spinners, etc.. with a Variety of colors. The fish are jumping and feeding on something but we cant manage to get them to bite our baits, any tips?
Were going to try floating worms, any rig suggestions besides texas rig or will that do?

There not perch, were in Northern California, fishing at Anderson Lake, Coyote Lake. Only Trout, Bass, Blue Gill, Cat Fish and the occasional, carp. Were hunting Bass

Well I use shinners all the time and catch something.
I would suggest using them, or some other live bait, because by the looks of it thats about the only thing left.

    Hey there

Have you tried Texas Rigged Plastics?

If not, look for a floating cricket plastic, the have one at Maniac Custom Lures (http://maniaccustomlures.com/FishingLures/gizzyBug.htm)
Float that and the bass SHOULD explode on it becuase they are obviously feeding on water spiders / mosquitos, or even small baitfish on the surface

Yeah had that happen one time old man came by and told me they were feeding on grass shrimp so you have to use jigs and reel them in slow with short jerking motions. They aren’t bass though it sounds like white perch use shiners near shrubs or trees and use another one with the jigs small jigs two on a line about eight inches apart. White perch are great tasting fish with a flaky white meat. So best of luck and enjoy.

  • The Wormist:

it is most likely carp that you see jumping. they are very active this time of year.
if it were bass jumping or taking baitfish from the surface you wouldn’t have any problem filling your stringer with smaller topwaters such as a rebel “pop-r”.
try those and zara spooks (which are a bit larger).
