my fiance wants a fish shaped cake for his grooms cake?
I have found the cake pan, but can not find anywhere on how to decorate it. Do I need special tips, should I use a certain type of frosting, how do I make those colors? He wants it to look like a bass fish.

is this for real? me i would put a real bass on the dish and tell him to close his eyes and he’ll feel the taste of fish. most people i know don’t have a shower for the groom just eat at a favorite local bar and restaurant and eat some good old fashioned Italian cooking and move to the bar where you can get him soooo drunk he might have second thoughts about giving up this life with his pals.it’s been known to happen

Try looking up fondant decorations… I’ve seen people do amazing things and sculptures with fondant.. it’s basically an edible sugar dough that you can mold like clay… and where’d you get that pan! LOL I want one… You can buy fondant pre-made or make it yourself with online recipes (it’s yummy, when I made it once from a marshmallow-based recipe!)
I would buy food coloring to mix in order to customize the color of the fondant (refer to a picture of a bass) and use some kind of metallic dust powder with a brush (edible too! find these in any major craft stores, like Michaels) to mimic the fish’s color and shine… You can create scales by pressing a toothpick lightly onto the surface of the fondant-covered cake in the pattern of fish scales…
*added* try to find some kind of bottle or jar caps and tilt it to one to press on the fondant to create semi-circle indents onto the fish cake to create scales! (I thought of that when I saw the last answer-er’s linked photos)
If you got the cake pan, with no instructions, and you do not already know how to decorate…then I would find someone who knows how to decorate to do the cake. You are going to be very busy on your wedding and will not be wanting to try learning how to decorate a cake at that time.
I don’t know if this is the same cake pan you have or not, but it shows how to decorate it. The icing used on this one is buttercream and the scales were made by using the end of the little spatula to make indentations in the icing. For the colors, I would buy the primary colors of, red, blue, and yellow, then mix to get the colors you need. You will probably need some black and brown also to get the shading you want. The fins on the fish in the photo were made from white chocolate which was colored and shaped into the desired shape but they could also be made from the buttercream icing.

This is the buttercream icing recipe I always use and it is easy to work with and tastes great.
BUTTERCREAM ICING
1 c. butter or margarine
1 c. Crisco shortening
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
5-7 tbs heavy cream
2 lbs powdered sugar (about 8 cups)
1-3 tbs corn syrup
Cream the butter, shortening, vanilla, and salt together. Add the powdered sugar, cream and syrup. Mix on low speed until powdered sugar is mixed in. Mix on med. low speed for 10 to 15 minutes. When you can take a teaspoon of icing out and drop it on waxed paper and it holds it’s shape and seems firm…..then your icing is ready to decorate with.
One batch of this icing will ice and decorate a quarter sheet cake 9×13.
You may need more or less liquid depending on the weather. Very hot and humid out-add less cream, very dry-add more. And if you’re wondering about the corn syrup, it doesn’t add to the sweetness of the frosting but it does add elasticity to help keep the frosting from cracking and adds a nice ‘gleam’ to the cake.
My fiance also wants a bass shaped cake! Where did you find the cake pan?
