Question for bass fisherman?
Have you ever tried fishing more finese techniques such as a wacky worm or drop shot using a baitcast set up?
If so, what rod type and line should I use?
Do you have a problem with backlash? How do you corect this problem?
I don’t have a spinning set up and I hate to have to buy one if I don’t need one.

Saltwater fisherman.
I use my abu garcia ambassaduar. I use eather a medium or medium-heavy rod with 20lb power pro braided line. I just use eather a 1/4 or1/8 ounce it works pretty good and i dont usually get backlash. I HOPE THIS HELPED AND GOOD LUCK FISHING!!!!!!!!!!
I haven’t because, when finesse fishing you use light lines, light weights, and such. It causes backlash WAY more often than you would get if you used a baitcaster with larger lures & weights.
If i did, i would use a medium-action 6’6 rod, with a reel filled with 14 lb. Trilene.
But, if you do use a finesse technique with your baitcasting outfit it’s no biggie, but you would be better off with a spinning reel.
you answersd my qustian. but ill tell you any wai used a worm thing i fond of those sticky thing that stick on walls theyr for kids to play with(my bothers) i caught a bluegill i just kept on walking around the dock and it worked!
im a white bass fisherman and there a little differnet from other ones but i use curly tail jigs with a touch of steak sent (like powerbait steak sent) and they hop after mine one time i remember catching 8 of them in 10 minutes it was awesome
Never went after bass. I usually go after rainbow trout and maybe some catfish. Hope you find a good answer that helps you.
l use a curado 100 or a daiwa tdx on a light rod rated for 6 to 17 (in that neighborhood) lb lines, 6 1/2 feet long with 8lb mono.
you need to experiment with your spool tension and magnetic brake knobs though to control backlash. particularly in the wind. l use a few split shot as my drop-shotting weight, adding or subtracting one when necessary. l generally use a 4 to 5 inch worm for this but mostly 4 with a size 1 or 2 straight worm hook or a tru-turn. light wire.
l don’t use spinning for worms either. more sensitivity with a baitcaster and 100% graphite rod. or a graphite/boron “phenix” which is my personal choice.
I wouldn’t buy one they backlash too much and its aggrivating to fix. I would use a spinning outfit for thid technique.
use a medium-heavy rod and if you are good enough with your baitcaster backlash should not be a problem…alot of practice and reel adjustment will solve the problem
hey man, i have been drop shottin for years around coverage and docks and peirs and so forth. the technique can be done with any type of reel set up. i have done this technique with a spinner and bait caster. the only way that i could see having a backlash because of the technique is not holding the spool when you twitch up and down with the rod tip and letting the line unspool itself. i use a 6’6” medium action ugly stick and i use 14 lb flourocarbon. i have used mono too and for the technique itself i dont believe that there is a big difference that would effect the drop shot. i have used bait caster time and time but i only own spinners and that is what i will always use. the spinner rod will work just fine with drop shotting. and there is less chance of backlash with a spinner. man i hope that helps you out a bit good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
