I bass fish in tournaments, so maybe my insight will help?
bass are like cats, If you play with a cat, with a ball of yarn, the cat usually Jumps on the ball as its rolling past it right?
Well, it doesnt want to EAT the ball of course, it however just, Jumps or pounces on the ball, and than releases it.
In a way bass react to certain presentations in lures, like the cat, you can trigger this even if bass arnt hungry, its called a reaction strike, or territorial infringement bite.

Great video Josh! You are going to drive yourself nuts, following these pointless studies. The idiots who conduct the studies are on their own stimulus plan. Free money, as long as the study lasts. That’s why it took over 20 years!
I have heard that some fish just love to get caught. They have a strong desire to be lipped by man. Also, they really like to get a breath of fresh air every now and then. lol
