bass in the spring are on the move from the deep holding areas of deep water into the shallower shorelines and creeks and feeder streams on the hunt for food and places to prepare for spawning, the best and most available food will be worms washed in by the rains and winter melt off.

(this is a HUGE Q. Every lake has it’s own “characteristics” and best techniques for Spring Bass fishing. Here are some “general” techniques you might try.)

Most Spring-time Bass are gearing up for the Spawn, looking for beds, and slowly moving into the shallows. However, generally you will have 4 different “types” of fish swimming in the water:

    1. Spawners.

    2. Bass moving up to Spawn.

    3. Bass still in Winter mode.

    4. Bass through with the Spawn & have “lockjaw”.

This gives you a WIDE variety of areas to search! BUT, most people target the shallows during this time of year, (because the cruising Bass are “hungry” and the Spawning Bass are vulnerable while on their beds).

The first place I look for Bass (in the Spring) is in the North – North West corner of any given lake. The North – North West corner’s water will “generally” be warmer due to Sun position and because it is shielded from late Spring cold fronts. (You should purchase a compass!!!) The only time the N -NW corner won’t be warmer is due to wind action pushing the warmer water to another section of the lake…….

Warmer water is always going to produce more fish in the Spring. (Having a temp gage is important.)

Look for hard bottom areas in 3-6FT for bedding Bass. Beds generally look like circular indention’s 2-4FT in diameter.

Use Spinnerbaits, Rattle Traps and Crankbaits for “Cruising fish”.

Jigs, Texas-rigged Lizards & worms, and suspending Stickbait’s for Bedding fish.

“Green” emerging weeds will draw more fish than brown, (or dead), weeds. If a cold front moves through concentrate your efforts on wood/metal structure & dark bottom areas.

    Hope this helps ?

Thumbs up to fisher, he covered about all the information possible. One thing I may add that I have done well with are swimbaits durring the pre spawn period.
