can you catch any freshwater fish with a 5 inch lure?

I ordered a lure from bass pro, but when I got it, it was HUGE!

I’m used to fishing with those small 1/2 ounce lures. I’ve used a lure this big. it seems that only saltwater fish can eat this thing.

can I catch ANY fresh water fish with a 5 inch lure? I don’t think bass will eat something this huge. catfish? I don’t know. it seems like I made a mistake and bought a saltwater lure designed for trolling in the ocean.

Oh a bass will eat it. It probably looks like a trout or spine-less fish species. This lure would probably be good for fishing holes and other cover bass hold in. Bass are very territorial and will strike an object of any size if they feel they are defending themselves. It’s worth a try and it may produce fish. Look at it this way if it does not work it might work for salt water fishing.

Probably a Sturgeon would be the only freshwater fish big enough. Depends on where you live I guess.

yes. i catch 4 pounders with a 10inch blue finess worm by berkley powerbait…great lure that is made for bass.

  • gimmenamenow:

Considering bass will take down baby alligators, which come out of the egg at 8 to 13 inches long, your 5 inch lure is quite take-able. The advantage being that the bigger the lure, the larger the fish that can take it… yes, you’re likely to get fewer hits, but when you ~do~ get a hit, hang on tight.

Bass will have no problem eating that bait. Northern Pike, Muskey, and plenty of others will have love to attack that lure too.

  • BOBBER:

Bass Northern pike Musky and Walleye eat baits that large if not larger.

there are plenty of freshwater fish that will take a 5 in lure. Bass, pike, musky, and gar are some of them. I have seen bass inhale 6 in minnows with no problem.

My son and I are having a blast up here in Alaska fishing for trout. We have been consistently catching big rainbows that we had been unable to tap into using conventional tackle like small jigs, spinners, (mepps/roostertails) etc. Because there are also northern pike in the same lake, we changed over to our SIX inch, broken back minnow type lures and we have been tied into BIG trout ever since. We have been taking trout that START in the 18″ size and go up into the 20′s. We have also caught char and salmon (land-locked) in the same lake. Ironically, we have NOT caught any pike. I guess we’ll have to put on bigger lures. Y’reckon? Good luck and good fishin’.
