fishing with artifical craw fish?

i have never fished with artificial crawfish. i have used live ones though. i have watched tv shows that showed the fisherman was tearing up the bass with craw fish lures and i was in bass pro shop and they demonstrated the lure and the bass wouldn’t even leave it alone. my question is what do yall think is the best way to fish the crawfish lure. oh yea..i picked up a bass pro shop weedless football jig to go with it. that is what the guy at bass pro was using a few week ago so i picked it up. if any of yall have any tips or techniques that would help me out. i am going to a river that is supposed to have a lot of lilly pads and grass cover if that changes the techniques any. thanks and good fishin

Crawfish and lizards are great early season bass lures. They are both natural predators of bedding bass so bass are generally very aggressive towards them in the early spring. Being July now, they aren’t as aggressive towards crawfish but fished properly (texas or carolina rigged, slowly) will still generate a lot of bites from bass. Good luck!

They are GREAT when it is the right conditions to use them. I use them ALL THE time for flipping and pitching into and around cover. I also, use them for trailers for jigs. I would suggest the new Berkley Chigger Craw! They are one of the best type craw baits on the market! Also the new Chigger Chunk works amazing for trailers for your jigs. The best jig on the market in my opinion, is thier gripper jig. All around good bait. So check them out and give them a try and you will not be disapointed!

I texas rig them now myself, but sometimes, if the bit is slow, you can use that football jib and basically drag it across the bottom just kicking up a little bit of sand so it looks like a real crawfish. (make sure the claws are dragging behind the hook and the tail end of the bait is up near the football head)

I’m a stream fisherman and thats how I do it.

If you want to know the best presentation, go to your body of water and kick up a few rocks until you see them scatter. The find one to harrass with a stick or the end of your rod and see what they do.

If it is a stream, just find a rocky spot to watch them move around, that is the best way to find the best presentation.

Practice casting your crawfish lure sort of sideways so it comes to rest under vegetation, or up under submerged fallen trees, etc., then use a slow, erratic retrieve. This will attract hungry bass in the morning and at night, and even during the day it will irritate them enough to coax a strike.
