i am a beginner at fishing at i would for some tips?

i am 13 years old and love fishing. but i still dont know a lot about it. any tips would be helpful. i mostly fish in the greenbrier and ponds. i sometimes at kanawha falls and the marmet dam. i use live bait (like everyone) and cranks along with very little soft plastics. i have 2 6ft. poles and abu garica reels. i use 10 pound test and do not own a boat. the biggest fish i have ever caught was an 18in. 5 puond largemouth bass. i caught that off nightcrawler. i mostly bass fish and trout fish. i live in west virginia and fish all the time. so i would love to get some tips from you pros out there. could you also give me some tips for what bait i should buy or try out. thanks

i started to really love fishing at your age as well. but when i started to use lures my love of fishing really took off. im telling you now, you will catch more fish on bait, but if you want some big and i mean BIG bass, you gota use lures. you can do plenty of research online and look at some videos on youtube about some lures. maybe try some topwater, or plastic worms. these techniques are not easy to learn, but when you learn how to use themeffectively it is the best feeling in the world. but i cant explain everything in one answer. but what i can tell you is bass love structure. weather it be lilly pads, fallen trees, rocks, it doesnt matter. but im telling you now look into buying some lures. they make cool lures like frogs, fish, worms, crawfish, what ever you feel like using. if you want to know more in depth things you are welcome to contact me on my email. im 17 and was in the same spot you were in 4 years ago, but i can give you some great facts so you can contact me with any questions and i will get back to you as soon as i can. One of my favorite bass lures is a terminator spinnerbait(white skirt). For Largemouth that is! I’m going to give you my most best lure. This catches the most fish i’v ever seen in my life. Ready?….(BASS STOPPER purple worm with a white stripe). When you first try your gonna think, man this aint gonna work, but fish it slow and you wont be sorry. GOOD LUCK & HAPPY FISHIN!!!

I will give you one of my favorite tips for spring and summer on ponds and pools on rivers. I like to use crank baits or soft plastics that look like insects. When it get in the heat of the day and all else seems not to work I always seem to catch fish with these; bass, bluegill and trout. I will toss out and let the ripples settle and let it sit for a while, then start to reel in slow while shaking my rod tip so it looks like a struggling bug in the water. I put links to my 2 favorite. I just moved from the mountains of western NC and I’m sure you have some of the same clear cold water like I fished so you should look into shaky head worms as well, they are easy and very productive. Also start reading magazines and maybe join BASS. I put a link to the BASS quick tip page which has some ideas.

well there are many types of bait. what works best for me is a worm, a red salmon egg, and some of this brown scented stuff that you can buy in these little bottles, and put these all on an average size hook. this works very well on trout. during cold days, trout will be towards the top, on warmer days trout will be near the middle of the water or lower. another good way is to get a boat (or find a boathouse where you can rent a motorboat) and troll with trolls and put bait or a lure 14-18 inches from the trolls. or troll with an in-line spinner or wedding ring lure. try to make very little noise, such as not laughing, talking loud, dragging chairs, stomping on the floor of a boat. these are mistakes i make all the time. fish are very sensitive to bright cloths. don’t wear anything too bright.
