need help on picking new gear?

alright so ive been using an unglystick light pro for the past two years and i actually really like it. its 5’10 light action. This year ive been thinking about buying a new uglystick to add to the collection. Im thinking about going with a 6’6 medium action. First off i dont want anyone who is only going to bash ugly stick to answer. Ive fished san croix and alot of top of the line rods and yea there good but i dont have that kind of money. I think ugly stick is the best for the buck. any ways anyone have any advise or opinions on if this size and action would be good. I mostly fish for bass, trout and walleye. any ideas on a great reel ( preferably somthing i could pick up at dicks sporting goods or something. i dont live near any bass pro shops) im thinking about switching my line too. im hearing alot about the braided line im thinking maybe 8-10 lb test? but any imput would be much apprieciated( unless ur gonna tell me to go buy a $100 rod bc i suck at life for wanting an uglystick
i ended up getting a 7″medium action uglystick light and an okuma stratus XTS. Still trying to pick out the right line

Just get a nice cheap bamboo pole and save your money for lunch.

Try Zebco, but it will not be too effective on Large bass. They usually run from 9-15 bucks , reel included.

I won’t insult your brand of choice- use what you are happy with and can afford, not what someone else thinks you should use.

If you are fishing for bass, medium sized trout, and walleye, a 6-6 medium action is an excellent choice. You didn’t say what type- Baitcasting, spincasting or spinning, so would need to know that to recommend a specific reel, but I can say that I have had good luck with Okuma reels and Shimano.

Be patient and watch for sales, and sometimes you can pick up a pretty decent reel for a lot less.

I’ve not used the braided line. If you can afford it, I would recomment the florocarbon lines. Much more expensive, but worth it when you consider they are more abrasion resistant, not as perceptible to the fish, and stronger and thinner than regular monofilament. Made a big difference for me.

    Good luck!

Sounds like you have made up your mind already, So to add to what you have heard already. Ugly stick is a good choice and if you have a light action pole already I would definitely suggest you invest in a medium action to complement your gear. I live in NM FAR from a bass pro shop too, but I do ONLINE shopping with them all the time, the gear and prices (especially sales) can’t be beat most of the time!

yea, i just want to tell everyone that bashes an ugly stick to take their 100 dollar rods they they “SAY” that they have and just shuve it up their a@@##$. i bought a 6’6” ugly not too long ago and i love it. attatched a plugher spinning reel with 10 lb braided. man i love it. that is one of the best combos that i have put together. get you a plugher and slap a 6 6 on it and find all the ugly stick bashers and sling a good sized buzz bait at them and hook them in the cheek and drag them around

I fished with Ugly Sticks for many years in various lengths and actions but recently I purchased some Pflueger rods and reels and for the price, they can’t be beat. I bought 2 for pulling cranks and 2 for jigging and they’ve so far been some of the best purchases I’ve ever made for fishing. I fish for walleye alot and I bought the rods/reels for that target fish. They’ve worked great.
