    8 to 10 for bass, except in heavy weeds I would go up to 15. Musky and Northerns I use 17 to 20 . Never tie a regular knot in any as that will lessing the strength by more than half.

    For bass you can get by with 10# test for open water, but you need at least 17# for timber or heavy weeds.

    Northerns: 12# with a steel leader is enough for open water; 20# for heavier cover.

    Musky: 30# or more
