Whats a good high strength fishing line for catfish?

I just got a catmaxx rod and reel combo from bass pro shops and I want to put 250+ yards of line on it. Any ideas?

I use Shakespeare red Cajun for cats in 14 and 20 test. its very strong i have caught several 20 pound cats on 14lb Cajun line. Its also easy to cast i use the casting type on 300 yard spools and am very, very happy with it.

Fought with a channel cat one time. Had 10 lb test on. fought that cat for a little over 2 hours. Wore it down to where it basically followed the tension in the line and hook. When I got it home to measure with my tape measure, it was 41 inches long. I still do not know what it weighed, I didn’t have a scales.

I’ve never fished for cats before, but any braided line will work great. If the water is clear, you may need a heavy flourocarbon leader. I prefer Sufix lines. I pulled a few toads out of heavy cover with Sufix line that had a lower rating than what the fish weighed. I’d go with Sufix braid if I was you. You may have to use some cheaper line as backing though.

    Good luck and tight lines!
