Wii: Should I buy Resident Evil 4 or Umbrella Chronicles?
Im looking for a game for the Wii that makes good use of shooting and slicing people lol. I dont have any games like this yet, I have Wii Sports and Play, looking forward to NFS: Pro Street, Bass Fishing and Mario Kart.
I need at least one adventure/shooting game and RE4 looks quite good! Is RE: UC better than RE4 in any way, or is RE4 just the best one to get? Yes I know RE: UC is not out yet.
Please rate both on:
1. Graphics
2. Gameplay
3. Story
4. Remote accuracy
anything else you like ![]()
ADDED QUESTION:
What are the functions of the remote and nunchuck for RE: 4 and UC?
Is it just shooting and slicing like a knife?
ADDED QUESION:
What is so bad about RE: UC? Compared to RE4? And please answer my questions above about remote controls

I would get 4
the chronicles is sort of like a remake of the old games…
the graphics on 4 are good, the game play is good, the story is great its a great game
1. The graphics in RE4 are AMAZING. I could not believe that the wii version actually looked so good.
For RE:UC the graphics are about the same from pics ive seen.
2. RE4 is a action/adventure/shooter that plays tremendously well.
Re:UC is a shooter and thats IT! You follow a certain path and dont get to explore all you do is shoot, kind of like time crisis at your local movie theater
3. Re 4 has its own story and is detailed in the aspect.
Re: UC actually covers all of the Re games so it kind of brushes you up on the background info.
4. Re 4 is dead on accurate for me.
RE: UC never played so i cant really say.
I have never played umbrella cronicles, but here’s what I’m guessing it will be like:
resonable graphics, I’ve seen pictures of it.
gameplay will probably be entertaining, but monotonus and uncreative
story will probably be nonexistent
remote accuracy will be fine I’m sure.
I own RE4, and I can tell you the following things for sure:
1. amazing graphics, far ahead of its time
2. Deep artistic gameplay that is fun, challenging, interesting, and frightening all at the same time.
3. Creepy, gripping, original storyline.
4. Remote accuracy is as good as you could hope for.
If you want an “adventure/shooting” game like you said I would definately go with RE4. Umbrella Chronicles is just a rail shooter like those stupid arcade games with the plastic guns. I’m not saying UC looks uninteresting, but I would recommend RE4 based on what I’ve seen.
RE 4 is a good game, bit too easy though if you ask me. And it’s only 1 player.
Graphics-9/10
Gameplay-7/10
Story-6/10
Remote accuracy-I played this on the original gamecube so I don’t know.
I’d say wait for U.C.
Best of luck to ya
RE4 is EASILY the better game. It’s one of the best games ever made, and the Wii version is perfect. Accurate controlls, Great graphics, and new content previoudly only available to PS2 players, this game is the REAL DEAL. If you buy one Resident Evil game, make it this one.
Well, ideally you should get both, however, if you are only looking to pick up one title, whether for financial reasons or personal, I would recommend Resident Evil 4 FIRST if you have never played a Resident Evil game before, however, if you are a long-time fan of the series, definately get Umbrella Chronicles.
I found that RE4 is great for newbies to the series, because,it takes place after the confusing mansion incident, it is straight-forward, and it can definately serve as a stand-alone title if the rest of the series is not interesting.
Comparing the games:
Gameplay: – RE4, Resident Evil 4′s gameplay, is a 3rd person over the shoulder. It might feel a bit awkward or restricted at first, but trust me as a long time fan of the series, these controls felt very liberating compared to some of the newer titles.
– Other gameplay features, aside, from aiming and shooting with your fire-arm, you can also obtain grenades, and use your knife, by quickly swiping the Wii-Remote.
– The Wii Remote and Nunchuk are required to play RE4
REUC: – The Gameplay for REUC is On-rails shooter. you follow set paths, with the occaisional branching paths, and have to gun down your foes.
– Only the Wii Remote is needed for the default gaming settings. However, by changing settings you can play with several different settings: Wii Remote only, Wii Remote and Nunchuk (used for looking around), and Wii Zapper settings
Graphics: – Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, are more or less on par, in terms of graphics, although there are many more cutscenes in the Umbrella Chronicles.
Story: – Story, hm, well how do I get around to describing this aspect of both games without an spoilers?
RE4 – The basic premise, as is descirbed in the instruction manual, is that the lead character (Leon Scott Kenedy), is a US government agent who has been sent to a remote village in Europe to recover tyhe President’s kidnapped daughter. However, once there the conspiracy is bigger and worse than Leon expected, and there are something about the villagers, that remind Leon of the horrors in Racoon city 6 years earlier.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, plot serves several purposes:
– It summarizes the key events that happened in Resident Evil’s 0, 1, and 3 in the games cutscenes
– It also provides dozens of documents, that are both new, and appear in previous resident evil games. These documents cover various elements of backstory, or additional details regarding, missing characters, favorite characters, and the different Viruses that were developed by the Umbrella Corporation.
– Then there are the new story elements which provide the backstory, leading up to and following the downfall of Umbrella, again these are covered both in cutscenes and in informative documents.
– @ ironclownfish – So um yeah, the plot in Umbrella Chronicles is VERY important, actually Umbrella Chronicles solidifies the canon storyline of the RE series, while Re4 serves more as a side story.
Anyway, In conclusion, being a huge fan of the Resident Evil series, I would highly recommend both titles.
However, if you are new to the series, definately go with Resident Evil 4 first. Umbrella Chronicles, might be a bit to confusing plot wise, if you aren’t familiar with the original games.
LOL Umbrella Chronicles is baisically a huge Fanservice to the oldskool RE fans.
Anyway, yeah both are great, so if you have the money get both.
Anyway I hope that this helped. Also sorry i know that was a bit long.
I would definitely go with resident evil 4.
UC is a step backwards. All you do is point and shoot. You don’t have any control of where you are going. If you are really into shooting everything you see on the screen you may really like this game.
