Big Belly Boat Bass

A basic Movie Maker production. Sorry I was unable to film either of the two fights. First one on a black buzz bait over hydrilla; second clip on a jig/critter craw on rip-rap along the dam. Filmed 3 months apart at the same city pond in Fayette, MO. Possibly the same bass, thus a good advocate for catch-N-release.

A clip from the new DVD crouching largemouth hidden pig a instructional video of how to catch more big bass on a jig and pig order your copy today at hogbass.com

Thanks! Black buzzbait. Crappy video as it was a “first generation” windows movie maker version. But, yes, the bass were great for this part of the country and quite possibly it was the same fish just a few months later.

    whoah, it’s a hawg!! niiiiiice

  • Winkiedoodles:

Glad you asked! “Mr. Sparkly” is one of the various things I call my fishing buddy. He owns a big sparkly Triton fishing boat.

  • goastdoggg:

    Whos Mr. Sparkly? LOL

  • GEECASTILLO:

small mouth fishin in the upper penninsual in michigan is really gud

  • Winkiedoodles:

otay that sounds great to have agressive florida strain largemouths im not sure what an otay lake is but it sounds great!

  • kmp3player:

i got florida strain largemouths in otay lakes in CA. those things are agressive

  • Winkiedoodles:

No, its a largemouth bass. For Missouri, it is a big fish but for Florida its just a normal one. The Florida strain of largemouth bass get really huge. No, never fished northern MN, but have always dreamed of going fishing for walleye and smallies up that way some day.

  • ForLoveOfParrots:

is that a smallmouth? it’s HUGE!!
ever been fishing in the north woods of MN?

  • Winkiedoodles:

Great question. I’ve been fishing from a belly boat and a float tube since the early 80′s and have never been attacked by a snake. A FEW (VERY FEW) times a snake will get close, but I think it was curious. I just whacked it or the water with my rod and away it went. There’s a lot of other float tubers out there that you can ask the same question; maybe find out something different!

  • Sneyeperis:

I was just wondering while in a u-boat like that.. what do you do about snakes? We got some northern water snakes here, and i hear they attack aggressively.

  • TriggermanEst91:

    ok,
yeah i watched it, i guess ill try it during bad weather conditions.
    thanks

  • Winkiedoodles:

Thanks, BowTech. Belly boats really do give you an amazing advantage on small waters if you are comfortable with the whole wader/flipper thing. Obviously you can get where you want to go a lot quicker in a canoe though! Thanks for commenting!

  • Winkiedoodles:

Triggerman, I was responding to another post on this video when I saw our discussion about buzzbaits. In my latest video I had really good success throwing buzzbaits in shallow water in windy conditions on the 19th of August!

  • bowtechgeneral:

    fish on!!

    nice bass there

I keep meaning to pick up a belly boat for places I can not easily bring my canoe too and man that looked like fun

  • Winkiedoodles:

No, it is in central Missouri. Georgia has REALLY BIG bass!

  • thebigbassboy:

    awesome is this in georgia

  • Winkiedoodles:

Well, don’t give up as they are really, really good lures. Try running one parallel to the bankline just a few feet out from the shore. Sometimes the active bass are right up close and will jump all over a buzzbait. Don’t forget to try a black skirted one!

  • TriggermanEst91:

    yeah..
i bought many types, sizes, and colors and just cant seem to nail one…

  • Winkiedoodles:

Thanks for commenting! I’ve found that buzzbaits work under the right conditions. Otherwise, they can be a waste of time. I’ve had the very best luck with them in early spring or late fall over vegetation, but don’t rule out late evenings in the summer, either!

  • TriggermanEst91:

I dont have much luck with buzzbaits….
    but that was a lunker

  • Winkiedoodles:

Thank you! There are often large bass in smaller ponds and impoundments. Appreciate your watching.

  • pieho:

    nice bass!

  • MLBRENIZER:

    Don,
I love your comment about the digital scale! Don’t some people blow your mind? Oh well! I guess the good Lord created all different types, however, some just don’t seem to exercise their “grey matter” when they appear to have plenty of the stuff.

  • Winkiedoodles:

Thanks, Matt. This was a movie maker production from a few years ago. I’ve never caught any bass over 7 1/2 lb. A lot of people who claim they are catching the “8-10 lb” bass “all the time” (at least in MO) are lying. I just ran into a guy last week who said he caught a “10 pounder” a few hundred yards from where I was fishing and when I asked him if he had a digital scale he replied “No, I’ve gotta get me one of those things!”

  • mlink1542:

Pretty usefull info everyone tell me to trim the hook guard. But I like how you told the pros and cons of doing it

  • pikefisherman3:

hey man, do you live in kalamazoo or kendall. i go to D n R all the time to buy stuff and go to seminars. we should fish sometime
