Ice out Chain Pickerel on the fly. This fish hit right off of some structure. It has something big in its stomach that it has not digested. Fish was still feeding too..maybe they are eggs? Many people give pickerel a bad rap. This is unwarranted..they are a great game fish. Most often this comment comes from people using the wrong gear. Catch and release quickly, and do not grab pickerel with pliers or other objects. Get a Boga and handle it the right way!

The chain pickerel is a species of fish in the pike family. Its range is along the eastern coast of North America from southern Canada to Florida. The chain pickerel has a distinctive chainlike pattern on its sides and its body resembles that of the northern pike.

In the river where my cottage is, the Ministry of Natural Resources netted a 100 pound musky a few years ago. The river is French River, Ontario, Canada.

NY on lake ontario and the muskie here get to about 48 pounds!
good size pickerel,I live in Newbrunswick, Canada the biggest one I caught was 27inches and a little over 5 pounds the norm is around 20 -24 inches, how big do they get where you are?We also have Muskie that have been illegally introduced into the St.John river they get over 20 pounds!both species belong to the esox family and look similar to a northern pike but aren’t pike!no morons here LOL!
