Fish Stocking (largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, fathead minnows, and hybrid striped bass)

In new ponds small (1-2″) bluegill, redear sunfish, and fathead minnows are stocked to establish a forage base. Once the forage base is established, we then stock the largmouth bass. We stock the coppernose bluegill and the F1, northern strain, or florida strain largemouth bass. The redear sunfish are also known as shellcrakers. Hybrid striped bass (aka stripers, hybrids) are stocked to provide fisherman an optional sportfish to catch.

practice catch and release and take care of your fish

cool. what type of job is this?

  • LakeWork:

We temper all of the fish, especially if there is a five degree or more difference between the water temp in the truck and the water temp in the pond. Tempering is not showed in the video because that just wouldn’t be very entertaining to watch

Stocking a pond with a bucket and letting the fish swim out is ok, but they should be let to get use to the water your stocking in but dumping out of a pipe from a truck isn’t the way to go, you’ll lose alot of fish that way, to much of a sock to the fish.
