FLY FISHING FOR GOLDEN TROUT

This was a quick one day hike into the mountains for Golden Trout. I was fortunate enough to catch a few of them on my fly rod. Great fighting fish. Returned to the vehicle with many blisters, black toenails and in need of new boots! See artwork and more videos at www.zachevenart.com

I catch a huge carp in my lake. It put up a great fight.

Nice vid! What time of year was this? I am going out there this summer for the first time, thinking of early/mid August.

    Where is this?

  • menacevang209:

    Wow… I think your a bit crazy… Lol… Nice video by the way….

GREAT video and very glad to see you Catch n Release! My friend and I hiked approximately 13 miles in to the Cooks Lakes in August 2009 in hopes of fly-fishing for some Golden Trout. We struck out, unfortunately. We also woke up to 4 inches of snow then next morning. The fish you caught were easily 5 times heavier than anything we caught on the Cooks Lakes.

A great vid, Zach. Thank you very much for sharing. That second fish — all I can say is “wow”!

I would love to get good at catching goldens myself. Hopefully one day! Would you mind suggesting a fly or two that you have found to be good ones for them?

    Thanks again.

  • erkod:

thanks, but how do u know if your tresspassing on other peoples properties or not? isnt that illegal? or are you going to national parks or something?

  • ZevenART:

Thanks, glad you like it the vid. I study maps like crazy and put on many many many miles in hopes of finding these places. Always carry maps and GPS. When I feel the need I carry spray instead of a gun (handier for me). Hope that helps.

  • ZevenART:

Thanks erkod. I spend a ton of time studying maps and put many many miles on chasing down possibilities. Always carry a GPS. Don’t usually worry about black bears. If I’m in Griz country I find spray handier than a gun. Just personal preference. Hope that helps and glad you enjoyed the vid.

  • erkod:

cool video. how did you know where to find that place? and how did u know how to get back. did you use a GPS? and do you carry a gun with you just incase a bear comes or something?

  • txajtsab03:

Wow! Those are some nice and big goldens, plus a very great video to go with it. Where was this taken at.

  • xyberfunk:

    you make great videos.. awesome

  • madaboottroot:

They are pure Golden Trout. Back in Scotland we stock them in fisheries and some you can tell straight away they are Golden but some look so similar to Rainbows. I was told that Golden Trout have a red stripe on their belly and Rainbows have a pink.

  • ZevenART:

Glad you liked the video! There are no cutbows in this video. Many were without question pure Golden, but I too wondered about some of them being crosses. The biologist told me there is nothing but pures in this lake so that’s all I have to go on.

  • lousydoma:

Very nice video. Although, those are not pure strain golden trout. One fish you held up was a cut-bow (cutthroat rainbow hybrid) and the other were gold-bows (golden-rainbow).
