Monster Bass on 8lb Test!!!
June 7, 2009 Billy Appling hears a lot about drop-shotting is for deep clear water. This was the day to test out or proof that myth like the Myth Busters. He was using a Fishbelly 3.5″ Hawg Shad on a drop-shot rig with 8lb test fluorocarbon line (abate an old line, but a good one from Izorline – Made in Japan). He found a place with weeds around 6.4 feet of water. After a few casts, we hooked on a monster bass matching the strength of the 8lb test line. What was going on in his mind was how to hoax the monster bass without having it break the line or make sure the fish would not get stuck in the weeds so he can bring it to the boat. For all the while, he was quiet and a bit nervous of losing the big fish while he was adjusting his drag on his reel. Well, as you can see, he brought the monster bass on boat to show after seeing the big fish and almost having his heart beating like redlining the RPM on your sports car. Next time when someone says that drop-shot is for deep clear water or small lure like the Fishbelly 3.5″ Hawg Shad cannot catch big monster bass. Just show them this video! Have fun catching your big monster bass!

This was video and pictures we took fishing out of Kiptopeke, Virginia. Our mission was to catch big striped bass and bluefish on the fly. The fish were huge and the fishing spectacular.

@hiluss That’s way cool!!! You must be very proud of yourself!
i caught a 7.8 pound bass on 4 lb line while i was crappie fishing…beat that
i would have used a bait caster rod, reason being you can flip it a little better than a spin cast same line weight but bait caster
@itsmewang
You must be nervous and excited at the same time. What a wonderful experience, isn’t it?

Congratulations, iceman5815. It must be heart-pounding experience. Did you apply for an IGFA record for under a light-line class?
i’ve caught a 8.78lber on 4lb test.. It snagged on the seaweeds and i forced him out too because i had no other choice and luckily the line didnt snap so i was able to land him.

Thats a really interesting video. Sort of part slideshow part video. I’m not sure I would call it epic though. Also, I love the opening and ending credits really neat. It was nice of the filmmaker to appologize for the lack of fish footage in this fishing video too. Keep up the good work. FA
will do for the next one for sure!
Cool!!!! Come on pick up the camera a little more Please. I want to see the fish!
