Northern Pike – 13lbs, 39inches – Upper Lake Mary, Flagstaff, Arizona – caught on 6lb line and a nightcrawler on July 11, 2008. We were just fishing for walleye, perch, and maybe a catfish, we didn’t expect anything like this and were totally unprepared. The final moments of a 20 minute fight.

I caught one ah lil bigger than that at Blue Water Lake in New Mexico. It was a Tiger Muskie. I use a net and it ripped through with ease, and was pretty good.

If theres walleye, perch n shit in that lake, then they defineately want all the pike outta that lake, thats why that pike is 13lbs down in Arizona, cause hes eatin good, real good by the girth of its gut.

I hope you guys released that fish, a pike that size will produce thousands of little pike evey spring, theirs no need in keeping any fish out of upper lake mary!!! so we can catch some fish that actually fight trout fishing is lame!!!! the only thing trout are good for is eating, but the lake is contaminated with mercury so you cant eat them!! understand? I release every pike i catch no matter what, trout fisherman go somewhere else where you can eat them like ashhurst or blue ridge resevoir.

Arizona Game and Fish actually wants to eradicate all the pike out of lake Mary. So they can make Lake Mary a trophy trout fishery again. which I think is retarded, since we are running out of good pike waters in Arizona. I release all pike I catch at Lake Mary. In hopes of prolonging it as a good pike fishery.
You should have released that fish. A fish of that size caught in Arizona is probably a 15-20 year old fish. Had that been in Canada a fish can grow that size in only 6-8 years. It’s a shame that they don’t have a catch & release policy to keep those type of fish in the lake to produce more fish of that size.
