Choosing the best bait for bass fishing is essential if you want to achieve a measure of success and continue to get better and better in the hobby. Of course, if you do not have the technique then the bait is often irrelevant. However, if you have the bait in place, you can work on your technique and measure your own success every time you go bass fishing! There are several types of bait that you can use to great effect, but there are far fewer best types of bait for bass fishing and I will take you through them below! That way, you can try several out and see what works best for you before settling to one or two different types of bait.

The first is a selection of live baits (foodstuffs) that have been proven to work in the past with bass. Bait includes crab, sand eel, prawns and other small fish that will scent the water and thus attract the bass. However, it must be said that these do not have the same level of success in the winter as they do in the summer because bass do not tend to feed in the winter and it is doubtful that they would actually bite your line. It may be more prudent, and cheaper in the long term, to purchase and use artificial baits instead!

One of the most recommended options is a frog. Small plastic frogs are generally used effectively throughout the year. A frog is used to rest on the surface to attract bass because they will actually catch their attention in a rather potent way. Bass tend to be attracted to frogs for some reason. There have been many stories in the past about bass emerging from the water to snatch frogs from lily pads in the past. As they look and move like actual frogs, they have had great success in the past.

A floating worm is also a good option. Long gone are the days when live worms were commonly dangled on the end of a wooden stick and line, but fake worms are just as popular today and they do usually meet with some success. They come in a range of shapes and sizes and are sold at the vast majority of tackle stores. You can choose from ones that are 6 inches or those that are 11 inches, and they also come in a vast array of colours and shapes so. There is generally no difference so just choose the ones that you prefer yourself.

There are baits around that actually set the water in motion and that actually attracts the bass in a major way. As the bass in every river, creek, pool and so on are major predators, they tend to home in on anything that moves so if you can make the water around your bait move then you are at an advantage! The torpedo and the spinner bait are two examples. Both set the water in motion around them, which attracts the attention of the bass and improves your chances of catching more fish!

Where To Find The Best Bass Fishing Bait

If you want to be successful when you go fishing for bass, it is important to consider the bait you’ll need and the techniques you intend to use. Bait for bass has a wide range of possibilities, and you may want to try several different ones to see which one produces the best results for you. Here is a brief guide to choosing fishing bait for your next excursion.

The best bass bait by far for a variety of circumstances are jigs. These baits can be productive in several water clarities, ranging from murky to clear. They are also excellent choices in water temperatures under 60 degrees when bass bury themselves in deep cover and become inactive. What is a jig, and how does it work?

This bait basically consists of a heavy lead head with a single hook. Attached to the hook will be some sort of skirt or trailer that will present attractively to the bass, making it appear alive in the way that it moves through the water. If you have a weedguard, you can use them with great success in dense cover, where you’ll find the biggest bass. Because they are discreet, they can be dropped into bass territory just like a live crawfish or baitfish without a major disruption. There are a number of different types of jigs, in all sizes and color, so you need to choose the right one to act as your bass fishing bait.

Weight can vary quite a bit, and the various sizes will be effective with different line types. For example, lighter weights ranging from 1/8 ounce to 1/2 ounce work well with light line and spinning tackle and are best worked in clear waters. On the other hand, murky waters call for larger jigs like 3/8 and 5/8 ounce varieties that should be paired with baitcasting tackle and heavy line. If there is a lot of heavy wind, it can be difficult to detect bites on a jig that is too light, so you may want to opt for a larger, heavier variety in these cases. Of course, the lightest jig you can get away with in any circumstance will be the best bass fishing bait in any circumstance, since you can easily feel when it touches the bottom and when a fish makes contact. However, maintain a range of weights in your tackle box between 1/8 and 1/2 to assure you have what you need for any application.

Top 20 Bass Fishing Tips

Before heading out to catch some bass, take a look at these 20 important bass fishing tips.

1. Fish slowly, providing better action and enabling the fish to have ample eye contact.

2. When the bite seems to slow down, you should slow also down. Work methodically until you find the fish.

3. Always be aware of your weather forecast. Wind, storms, and lightening kill. Safety comes first.

4. If wet feet bother you on rainy days, try a pair of GORE-TEX sox. They are waterproof and can be worn in any shoe or boot.

5. Be alert and watchful. Fish give away their presence 90% of the time through baitfish fleeing; surface action; or vegetation movement.

6.Always look in a bass’ mouth before releasing it. Most of the time, when fighting a lure in his jaw, a bass will try to throw up whatever is in his stomach. You may be able to determine what prey the fish are actively feeding on and choose a lure/presentation to duplicate it.

7.Set the hook on a fish by feel rather than by sight.

8. Regularly check your knot for weakness and hook for sharpness.

9. Bass are not that smart. A swivel does not affect the action of a lure in a negative way and fish don’t really care about it. Use one anytime there is the potential for line twist.

10. If you are using small hooks, don’t jerk hard on the hookset; just tighten up the slack with the rod and reel faster.

11. Check your line just above the lure frequently when fishing crankbaits around rocks, gravel, stumps, and other hard obstructions. They can quickly fray your line.

12. Bass normally respond best to an erratic retrieve and a lot of motion. Keep that lure in front of the fish as long as you can.

13. Hold your rod tip down and to the side for better feel, keeping the angle between rod and line at around 90 degrees.

14. Black buzz baits seem to produce more strikes than bright colors.

15. Since the bass’s metabolism is high, use large crankbaits in warm and hot weather. Switch to smaller baits when the water is cooler.

16. Use a wire cross-locking snap when fishing crank plugs. It allows you to change lures quickly and enables the bait to vibrate more freely.

17. If you notice feeding fish and baitfish movement, the predators are actively after the prey. Switch to a fast moving crankbait and burn it through the area of activity.

18. Protect your eyes with a good pair of plastic polarized sunglasses. They will protect you from the sun’s rays and also provide a shield against a snagged slip sinker or lure flying back when pulled loose.

19. Keep baits fresh and airtight with a food vacuum sealer. You can also store hooks and other terminal tackle this way.

20. Store small quantities of hooks with a few grains of rice and they will never rust.

Using these tips will help you increase your bass catch!

How To Improve Your Results With These Bass Fishing Tips!

Bass fishing can be a real game of patience at times and this is what separates the successful angler from the non-successful. What do I mean? Well, one of the best bass fishing tips you’ll ever receive is when a technique is not working, change it!

Too many times stubborness sets in and a little laziness. If the fish aren’t biting and you promised the little lady fish that night then you’d better be prepared to do a little work during the slow times! There’s nothing worse than getting home and copping a dose of ridicule from your biggest fan!

Bass Fishing Tips

Ever had a day where you cast your line and nothing happens. Come on, you’d be lying if you didn’t! Those type of days test even the most experienced bass fishermen but imagine how frustrating they must be for those anglers who have decided to take up this past time for varying reasons; to take a break from the wife, for health reasons or to just simply get out and enjoy the environment.

The truth is, most of the time bass don’t see it the way you do! One of the best bass fishing tips I received was if nothing is happening, change what you’re doing! How much sense does that make? It makes a lot of sense. The old saying of “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result” rings true in most walks of life. It also applies to bass fishing.

Bass Fishing Fact

When fishing a new lake you should prepare even before you leave home. Apart from a good map of the lake, deciding on the type of bait you use first up is vital. Many experts suggest crank bait as a good way to find the fish first up.

Some Bass Fishing Tips

When things aren’t happening and the fish aren’t biting consider making a few changes. Too many times anglers will just leave a line in the water and hope the tide will change. Maybe a bass is dumb enough to take pity on you and will just grab your line to help you out a little. Or, you head for the esky and rip a top off your favorite drink and simply wait it out.

No, if things are going to start happening you have to make them happen. There will be days when the bass are just biting on everything you cast at them and there will be days when they are just not interested in what you have to offer. This is when you need to get a little inventive.

Bass Fishing Street Smarts

You can make it happen or at least give yourself every chance to swing things your way. You’ll get many bass fishing tips in your life time and probably give out a few as well but the best tip I can give you today is, don’t settle for medriocrity when things look bad. That’s why it’s called fishing!

A Bass Fishing Tip is Good if it Helps You to Catch the Bass

However experienced you are as fishermen, you will always want to learn some new tips on how to catch your favorite fish. The test of the tip lies logically speaking in the ability of making you succeed in catching the fish. If the tip really helps you, you will be able to catch it, and if not then the tip is not that hot. This is the acid test.

A Good Bass Fishing Tip

There are many fishing tips that are floating around with special emphasis on catching bass. One of the most important tips however, not only for bass fishing but also for all other species is that one has to be extremely familiar with the fish they want to catch. If you are fishing for bass, you should know where they live, what they eat, where they like to frequent and why, how to locate them in the morning and at night, and the best way to attract them.

A second bass fishing tip

You cannot fish for bass or any other fish as a matter of fact unless and until you are comfortable with the location/ destination the fishing for that species takes place. For example, a type of bass called the peacock bass lives in the Amazon River. Now it is a given that if you want to catch it, you will have to be on the Amazon River and nowhere else.

Another bass fishing tip

For bass, particularly summer is the season for fishing. So if you are looking forward to catching some great bass, then you will have to plan a trip to a summer destination like Florida, where the bass live and you can take your pick. The bass are in plenty during he summer months and they are easy to locate also as they will be definitely following the school of crayfish which are their favorite food.

One last bass fishing tip

However plentiful the fish are, unless you know the job you will not be able to catch even one. Hence, you should know how to use each and every piece in your angling box; besides you should carry with you adequate lures and live bait which are most irresistible to the bass. The method of fishing, your style of fishing and the fishing implements you carry will have to complement each other perfectly if you want to have an easy time bass fishing.

Anyone have tips on best bait for Bass? Do they prefer shallow water? Shade? Best time to fish? I will be in Maine this week staying on a lake and I love fishing. I catch Bass sometimes, but tend to catch the other little fish with the spiky fin. (sorry, don’t know what they are called). How do you get the big ones?

They are found primarily in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia. The Brahminy Kite is distinctive and contrastingly coloured, with chestnut plumage except for the white head and breast and black wing tips. The juveniles are browner, but can be distinguished from both the resident and migratory races of Black Kite in Asia by the paler appearance, shorter wings and rounded tail. The pale patch on the underwing carpal region is of a squarish shape and separated from Buteo buzzards. The Brahminy Kite is about the same size as the Black Kite and has a typical kite flight, with wings angled, but its tail is rounded unlike the Milvus species, Red Kite and Black Kite, which have forked tails.[2] The two genera are however very close.[3] The call is a mewing keeyew.[2] The breeding season in South Asia is from December to April.[7] In southern and eastern Australia, it is August to October, and April to June in the north and wet.[8] The nests are constructed of small branches and sticks with a bowl inside and lines with leaves, and are sited in various trees, often mangroves.[8] They show considerable site fidelity nesting in the same area year after year. The worm is rigged correctly with more than tip protruding from worm. Had 2 hard bites yesterday and saw fish running with the line across water. I game him 5 seconds to run with it and then jerked back hard only to have my bait fly out of its mouth. I jerked hard!

Is their some technique I’m missing?

My dad says to use the largest bass hooks possible. The ones I use are medium sized hooks. ANY tips?

Both times I could feel that they were definitely bass. Should I run hook through worm more so that its coming out regardless of getting hung up on bottom or snagging weeds.

I’m a trout, salmon, and bass fisherman, and I’m planning on a long day of lake fishing over here in NY. I use a spinning reel.

I haven’t been really into fishing until the past five years. Therefore, I’ve NEVER been good with sinkers. I don’t ever know how many I should put, the placement, anything. So for you trout fisherman out there, I have a question;

How many sinkers do you use on your line, and what placement (inches apart) do you put them at? If you don’t have specifics, give me suggestions, or what has worked best for you. If you’re wondering, I put my bobber about 8 inches from my hook.

Keep in mind I’ll be mainly trout fishing, so any fish-specific tips should be focused on trout fishing. Thanks for any help you can give!

I will be fishing an area that I know holds several muskies in 2-5ft of water with very thick lily pads present. I have never fished anything weedless for muskies and I am looking for ideas. I know a little about rigging weedless for Bass so is it simply a matter of upsizing my presentation? I am going to try a large weedless frog and maybe a weedless spoon with a trailer. Any other ideas? I do appreciate any detailed techniques that you come up with.
