Bass tournament HELP!!!?
ok I know smallmouth are the dominate species the only problem is the river/lake has practically no shore line structure. How should I go about finding fish? I know there’s a nice rock bed down close to the dam but i don’t want to limit myself to just that area. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Look for rocky points. It may not be obvious. Just a switch from mud to small rock may be all that is needed. Also…My experience has taught me, Smallmouth prefer cooler water. Look for the stone/gravel/bolder base near an incoming stream.
I don’t know what happened to the pictures at this site but there is a two part article on locating smallies here that is worth reading, plus another article on river fishing for them………………………..
Drop offs, banks, underwater structure, ledges, etc.
i know its hard to start a tournament slowly combing the water for structure when you need to be fishing trust me.but sometimes an hour or so of marking a few bottom structure details is well worth it.like you have heard before look for rock points, secondary points, drop offs, eddies, bottom transitions, feeder creeks.all are good spots to start
try using a search bait such as a crank bait or double willow spinner something you can really get moving to make up your time spent searching.once you catch a couple of fish in an area change to a slower presentation such as a tube or jig and pick off the bigger fish of the school.
it might be a good idea to try the dam first just to get some fish in the boat then see if you can upgrade from your “new” spots……..good luck
I would fish the bends in the old river channel. Forget the shoreline on the lake and find the old river channel and fish the structure and the natural river cuts and ledges. Fish these first with a Bandit 300 series in spring craw color, paralleling the river channel until finding fish, When the action slows have ready a tube or other jig type presentation.
Good luck.
