i take 5. 3 with jigs tied on different sizes 2 with deep and mid running depths.
When I was fishing T’s I had 18 rods in my rig at all times, 4 where spinning outfits and the rest where bait casters
I usually take at least 6 rods if I don’t know what’s workin’:
1 – 7′ MH baitcaster w/braid (for thick stuff or jigs)
1 – 7′ MH baitcaster ready with texas rig (for plastics)
1 – 6.5′ M baitcaster for spinners
1 – 6.5′ M (glass rod) baitcaster for cranks or rat’l traps
1 – 6.5′ M baitcaster for topwaters (always have a topwater)
1 – 6.5′ M spinning reel (for skipping and finesse)
I always have 6. All rigged differently. This greatly reduces your rigging time during the tourney. I also took some advice from Rick Clunn many years ago by matching all of my rods and reels. They are all the same brand rods, different only in actions. Reels are all the same, different only in gear ratios. This is critical in keeping the rhythm going hour after hour,.If you use different stuff when you pick up another outfit your first 10 cast will be off and possibly a backlash due to the difference.Trust me, It will make a huge difference. A big tip on top-water buzz-baiting, Always have a Texas rigged worm – lizard – critter ,ready on another rod to throw when a bass blows up on the buzz-bait and misses. You will hook up almost every time.
Depends on the tournaments regulations. Some place limits, others don’t.
If you have your fish pattern down and think it will hold for the tournament, you wont need but 3 or 4.
