How were these bass different?

I am not talking about largemouth and smallmouth. I am talking about my tournament Saturday.I caught two bass One on one side of a bridge and another on the other side and one was a lot whiter than the other. One side has weeds and the other sid also has weeds but deeper. But shouldn’t they be the same color. We notice that every time we go to this lake
none were striped bass or hybrids They were both largemouth just one was whiter than the other

Fish of the same species can have color variations, just like people do.

One was african the other was caucasian

The one fish may have just came from deeper waters but also as said fish will have different colors but it sounds as if one came from deeper cooler waters!

Are you sure it was not a hybrid

  • Johnny boy:

one may have been a hybrid striped bass and the other a large mouth bass but the lighter couldve been adapted or camoflauged over time

Usually a bass caught in deeper water will tend to be pale or lighter in color, almost like a silverish color. I believe the water temperature at various depths plays the role in this. I don’t know much about the pigmentation of their skin and what actually causes them to be lighter in color. In my experiences fish in deeper and/or cooler water tend to be lighter in color. For example a fish caught in the winter will not be a bold in color as one caught in the summer. Hope this helps.

Here’s the deal. Bass have the ability to take on different shades of color, sort of a way to match their environment. The extremely darker colored fish will come out of dark grass, the very pale bass will come out of muddy water, I’ve noticed this over the years, also/
