Where should I fish at this pond?
I’m in a bass tournament tonight at a pretty small pond with pads on one side and it stretches to about 12 ft on the other. Todays temp got up to about 85 with not all that much sunshine. Are the fish going to be pushed into the pads or out in the deep water.

in the pads
If the pond is as small as you suggest, I’d start by working the pads with something weedless rigged and top-water lures like frogs or rats. Work deeper into the pads with spinner baits which also run pretty much weedless. If that fails move into the deeper waters where the temperature may be a bit cooler. There are any number of common bass choices that could work to lure the bass to your boat. I’d still consider the spinner baits, as well as some broken-back minnow types, and some artificial grubs and worms hooked once through the middle of the body and allowed to slow sink (with a twitch or two on the way down) until it gets into their zone. If they are to be found, you can find them, and when you do… Well, you know what to do next. Good luck with the tournament.
