because it actually works
Artificial lures test your fishing skill more than natural live bait. The fish may be hungry and attracted to the bait, regardless of your fishing skill. Artificial lures require skill to obtain a hit.
Because bass eat it deeper into their throats than artificial baits. You’re more likely to kill them that way. It’s illegal(by fish & game) to use bluegill or any sort of sport fish to fish for them anyways b/c that’s their natural food…of course they’ll eat them.
To keep it a level playing field and tot have controversy between those who fish with artificiaand those who prefer bait fishing. The bait fiserman stands a greater advantage of catching bigger and more bass
here are the rules

if the pro were able to use live bait in bass touraments they would being 50 to 60 pound stringers each day of the tourament. it would be just to easy for the pros
Just as stated! A level playing field and the use of the fishermans knowledge! Any dummy(me) can use a live shiner and catch big bass everyday but give me a lure you make me earn my fish!By the way bass inhale live bait as deep as lures it is the sense of the strike why lures dont always go as deep! When I use livebait I watch and see when the fish takes the bait then set my hook and I always release my fish live and ready for the next day!
Because it is easy to alter the bait and can cause it to be unfair.
Part of it is what the others have said, but think about it in a business sense. The tackle companies sponsor the anglers. And the anglers can only use artificials. They make the average angler think anyone can catch fish on artificials, so you go out and buy them. It is just business.
several have said it level field and a buisness ploy to get you to buy lures! look at some of those siper flashy lures selling today. and tv lures yes I bought some and caught fish with them but I always go back to a 10″ wild shiner for big bass!
