unintentionally, that is!

I’m not a tournament fisherman, and I imagine the rules vary by tournament. However, I find it unlikely you would get disqualified for a foul hooked fish, unless the officials suspected that you were doing something shady that led to an intentional foul hooking (Snagging)

If you simply caught one who foul hooked itself, Why would that be your fault? And why would they penalize you for something you didn’t cause and couldn’t control?

Fish properly and within the rules and you shoud have no worries. Good Luck

If it is during the spring spawn and bass are on the nest, you have to prove to an observer that the fish was hooked in the mouth. A foul hooked Bass will count as legal anytime after the spawn. As long as it meets or exceeds the States size limit.

    NO!

That depends on the rules of your tournament. Not all tournaments are the same. Most understand that foul hooking is a reality but will not allow it as part of your limit to take for weigh in. I seriously doubt you will get disqualified unless you try and cheat and toss in a foul hooked fish. They’ll know, it’s that obvious!

If you keep the fish to weigh in then yes you can be disqualified. If you catch a fish and you foul hook it you have to release the fish. The defition of foul hooking is different from state to state. Most states if you are fishing a reaction bait like a topwater or crankbait and the fish is hooked in the head then you could keep it because it was striking at the bait. In states like California if its hooked outside the mouth at all it has to be released.

  • BASSMASTER:

nope the only foul hooked fish you can’t keep is a foul hooked sight fish while sight fishing.
