I love spinnerbaits and grubs for smallies and fat bodied crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwaters for largemouth. As for structure and weather conditions I justr play it by ear when I get to the stream or lake.

I live on the Oklahoma/Arkansas line. I have alot of luck with the fire tiger, many different brands, depends on temp. depth, etc.

Plastic worms never did me wrong.

  • CoolHand:

White H&H spinnerbait, early morning, on the edge of any vegetation, and it seems like they bite the best when there is a good chance of rain later in the day.

small mouths favorite food is crawdads. get some plastic crayfish that are the same color as they are in the streams and rivers where you fish for them. as for largemouth, i have a 2 inch top water jitterbug and i have caught many largemouth bass on it. plastic worms work wonders, and anything that imitates a minnow works for either.
the real thing works the best, though. get lots of fatheads/shiners, and get a dozen night crawlers and each time you use them rip em in half. use a size 8, 6 or 4 hook and make sure that if you are fishing during the day and morning to get the bait down. if you are fishing during the evening or night, fish the slower moving channels, as they will be feeding in the pools for minnows and crayfish.
the best time to fish for smallmouth is evening/twilight, when all the food they feed on comes out.
    good luck
