Are some largemouth bass consistently more aggressive than others, always hitting topwater opposed to slow bait

If I culled bass from a pond that only hit slow moving baits and kept those that hit topwater, would those bass consistently hit topwater. Are some bass genetically more aggressive than others?

Black Bass are opportunistic feeders and not selective as to on type of forage. The time of year, water temperature and water quality and other factors play into how aggressive and often a bass and most fish feed. If your pond is over populated with small bass it will help to catch and eat or relocate to another pond to keep the fish to pray ratio balanced. I have never read of some one trying to get Black Bass to hit one lure over another as to be selective in their preference. Call or check with your fish and wild life department in your State they should have contacts for raising bass and setting up and building a quality fishery/pond. Also call B.A.S.S. at 334-409-5329 and ask for references on subject.
Hope this helps and E-mail me I’ll help catch some of your Bass

Some bass are genetically more inclined to hit lures than others yes. I heard tests with marked fish show that the same fish get caught while a ceratin percentage rarely bit a lure. In other words I call it a dummy trait because the same bass bite repeatedly.

I would think it would be the same with your experiment . But you will need to factor in conditions like weather time of day and water temp etc. Because bass bite different lures at different times better. Lots of variables to your equation.

There are some studies going on to see if as fry and juvenile fish feed what learned traits they create because of forage!
IE: larvae, fry, crustacean, insect that may lead to what these fish may dominantly feed on as adults!
Some studies have shown bass to chase minnows and kill them but not feed on then they put in say a worm and the same fish eats it right away and visa versa! These are still just studies with some credence I think!
