Best bait to use on Largemouth Bass?

Some say crawlers, some say plugs.. but I fish at a nearby small pond(140×100 yards) probably 12ft deep. Pond has plenty of shads and perch. What is the best bait to use in this environment and how should I rig it?

It’s always the same with these questions. There is no 100% Sure to work bait for bass. Sometimes, they’ll hit you crankbait. sometimes they’ll hit a spinnerbait. sometimes they’ll take your worm or clam or whatever tightliners use.

Just try them all. First thing to do is find a color that works. Shad and perch, so i would get a white/silver lure or a perch colored lure. then i would go buy some lures in those colors like:

White or any color soft plastic worms
Perch color Rat L trap. Personal fave of mine
    Crankbaits
    White spinnerbait.
    Ect.
Sorry, but thats all i can say. Although, LIVE BAIT is always a good backup if your lures aren’t working. Just pick up a minnow trap or cast net. Nose hook it and cast.

12 ft is still deep but i would sugest lite line because of shallow water line can be visible and texas riged soft plastics should work plus topwater lures like frogs and walk the dog lures and use some shallow diver cranks

here’s a couple that will be deadly in that habitat:
    1. spinnerbaits, small size, yellow or white or chartreuse and white.
    2. storm wild eye, 3″, baby bass or bluegill color.

There is no such thing as a best bait. However, generally speaking, the three baits that get the most strikes are crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and plastic worms. Plastic worms work in pretty much any situation. You can’t go wrong with a purple Texas-rigged worm, you can either use a sinker or have it weightless (it will still sink, just more slowly). For crankbaits, just get a 2-3 inch bait that is supposed to imitate shad. A shallow diver is probably best because your pond is only 12ft. Any spinnerbait will work, white is probably better because they look more like the fish in your pond.

I think a soft jerk-bait, such as a Zoom Fluke would work very good in your pond. I think they make a small 3″ version, which would be the best in your case.

theres not really a “best” lure. Since most bass websites and pros only focus on lakes and rivers i see why you came here. But you can use the same info and scale it down. there will be more bait where water runs in during rains, fish will seek cover in the middle of the day, and always mix things up if your first choice isnt working. Also you can try minnows or even worms.
