Could i keep 2 largemouth bass and a channel catfish in a 29 gallon aquarium temporarily?
I have a 29 gallon tank i would like to have a native fish tank. i would like to put two 3-4″ largemouth bass and a 5″ blue channel catfish. i would keep them in here until they are too big and then i will release them into my friends farm pond where i caught them. I would like to keep these fish for hopefully 6 months. would they live for a while if i do regular water changes?

I’m not sure of the laws in all states, but I know for a fact (from my boyfriend’s personal experience) that in California and Oregon, it’s illegal. Those breed of fish are considered wildlife and it’s not legal to keep wildlife in a residence. To be sure, you should contact your state’s Fish & Game Department to find out the answer to your question.
That sounds pretty cool. My wife and I used to have a 29gallon tank. I don’t think that you would have any problems. The rule about fish tanks though that I’ve always heard is to have 1 gallon of water per inch of fish. So 8+5= 13 and you have a 29 gallon tank. The only problem I see with this is that the fish may not grow as much once they are confined to that small of an area. the more fish you have in your tank the less room they have to grow. We don’t have a tank now, but I have wanted to try that myself as well. The bass not the catfish. I think you should try just to see how it turns out. Good luck hope I could help.
once confined to a smaller body of water (the tank) the max growth of the fish wil be lowered! So you might not be able to have them grow much bigger….but i dont see why they wouldnt survive……i wouldnt do the cat though….i definatly would not put the cat into your friends farm pond……where there are cats there are no bass..(most of the times)…..cats will eat the bass eggs therefore lowering the numbers of bass…..and once the cat tastes bass eggs its game over….they’ll be looking for them none stop! but yea….Good luck with it!!!
They would outgrow an aquarium that sized alot sooner that 6 months.
