Does anyone know anything about keeping a largemouth bass in an aquarium at home?

I’ve got an aquarium at home that I’d like to set up a habitat for a largemouth bass. Has anyone done this before and if so do you have any suggestions for me?

AS A MATTER OF FACT HAVE 5 LARGE MOUTH BASS IN MY TANK….WHEN I GOT THEM LAST SUMMER THEY WERE ABOUT 2 INCHES LONG, I PUT THEM IN MY 55GAL AQAURIUM WITH MY KOI..THEY EAT THE FLOATING FOOD THE KOI EAT, NOW THEY ARE ABOUT 6 INCHES LONG…AND VERY AGGRESIVE EATERS….THEY ARE FUN TO WATCH GROW!!!GOOD LUCK!!

My husband has raised baby ones but not sure if he’s done a big one. He kept the aquarium ratio at 1″ of fish per gallon of water. That’s a LOT of water for a large mouth bass since you must count width of fish as well as length.

Treat the aquarium the same as you would any other….filter, oxygen…all the bells and whistles. Feed him more than just fish food…give him veggies and other stuff…but keep the tank CLEAN.

Set the aquarium up for two weeks before adding the fish, and then check him every day to be sure he’s healthy. Clean out anything he doesn’t eat within 3 minutes. Do a 20% water change, cleaning under the gravel with a syphon cleaning tool…about monthly.

Better check with your local Fish and Game first; Its usualy illegal to keep game animals. Still it would be better then mounting it.

I`ve done that and had catfish to,they are great to watch but will eat any smaller fish you have in the tank.

Dude i have thought about doing that myself but it is illegal to keep gamefish as pets in an aquarium! If for some reason your caught by the “Fish and Game” Services they can fine you up to $2500 per game fish that you have! To me it didn’t make any sense to take that risk.

I did this once a long time ago.

You can keep a bass at home in an aquarium, but eventually he will eat you out of house and home. Mine was eating 5 goldfish a day, before I decided to return him to the lake. This gets expensive after awhile. Plus, the bass will kick the pants off of any other fish you try to put in there.

ive keep bass, blue gill, crappie, perch, and nothern in an aquarium.
and no its not illegal, since you can legally purchase them from petshops or mail order.
