How can I catch a ten pound largemouth bass in the suburban canals of South Florida without using live bait?
A butterfly peacock bass will do also.

First off you would have to know how to dive. Then purchase a spear gun and get to work. Under water the bass think you’re another fish and don’t feel threatened. You could possibly get a 15 pounder.
use big hard plastic jerk baits, worms will not work for peacock bass, you need a bait like husky jerk. try lite colors for dark water, and dark colors for clear water. you can also use 1oz rattle-traps. the key is big hard loud baits for peacock bass, in the Miami area. TIGHT LINES my friend.
try a crankbait or jerkbait or a topwater for bass. For peacock use a thuge topwater or a huge jerkbait.
use any Bass lure that, You would normally use in a River.
You know, they have Peacock Bass in those canals, too. even near the airport.
Call this guy, he has a private stock smack dab in the middle of the Miami Speedway and you can fish and watch race cars at the same time. He’s your best bet for anything 10 pounds plus anywhere concerning Miami canals and Homestead.

Fly rod – I read an article in a fly magazine on how people fish peacock bass with a fly rod and poppers.
There is a canal right by a shopping mall people have had success. The article states “If your spouse is with you and you need a good excuse to go fishing, the canal behind the Falls Shopping Center on South U.S. 1 (Dixie Highway) at 136th Street is a great peacock canal. Start directly behind Bloomingdale’s department store (you can drop your spouse off for some shopping while you fish).”

Next time I’m spending time in Florida, the fly rod and flys are comming with me.
Good luck and keep the line tight!
