How do i catch a common carp i see?
Okay, so at the local lake i fish it almost every day, there are Catfish, brim, largemouth bass, but yesterday i realized there was a very large abundance of common and grass carp. I went around one o clock, and there was a landscaping crew. The weed-eating caused grass to find its way floating on top of the water. The carp were going mad, and eating it all. Well, i tried to catch them by sight fishing using a treble hook and some leaves i put on, but since i only had blood red hooks, i think that gave it away. I went back today, and there were some eating off of the top of the water from the remaining grass, but not as many. The lake is like a horseshoe style, but not exactly a “U”, it has a very large body, then two points. It is a five acre lake. What should i do to catch them? I tried casting around 3 feet away from them so the grass wouldn’t sink, but they got startled every time and would dart off. I’m going back tomorrow, in hopes of finally catching one of these carp. What should i use as bait, equipment, etc? I just want to be able to catch them without scaring them off, because i’ve realized they are smart, and very skittish. Thanks in advance.

I would use tortillas they may not sound like the best bet but if you can get a well hooked CORN tortilla out there youre sure to catch a few! Good Luck Man!
for me from shore in So Cal……
i like to use a slice of white bread with canned corn. add some (wet from can) corn to the bread and kneed it into a firm ball about 1/2 and inch. i like to use #4-#6 fly liner hooks (live bait) with no weight.
the firmer you make them the longer they stay on the hook and the heavier they are. use light line. 6-8
they sound hungry. they are fun to catch!! have fun!
throw a few smallish chunks of bread crust in and if the carp start to eat it then put a bit of crust roughly the same size on your hook and cast in near the other bread , but throw some more chunks in when you cast ( not too many , about 4-5 should be fine). carp go mad for bread
i dont really think you should use a treble hook because it does more damage to the fish. i use a single barbless one it’s much better xx
it will take quite a while for the carp to start eating the bread but when the get a taste for it there’s no stopping them , just try not to scare them away when you cast in the bread ( use light tackle )
Not sure why you would want to catch carp other than for fun or smoking.
Have you considered a bow and arrow setup for fish?
Carp are not active when they’re on top of the water. The only possible way of catching them would either be fly-fishing with cicada looking flies or just snagging them, which would be dumb.
