How to Catch Largemouth Bass in a Reservoir?

Recently I have begun fishing in my local reservoir for bass, crappie, and other small fish, but mainly I want to catch bass and a lot of them. I caught about a 4lb bass my first time out fishing along the bank with a surface lure that needs action to dive. This was great, but now I have been unable to catch anymore bass. I need to know what I should do to catch a lot of bass anywhere up to 6 lbs. Mainly I have been fishing weedy areas near the bank. What kind of bait I should use, how I should use it, and where I should use it would be very appreciated.

i fish in similar cover your talking about. you want to fish things like weeds, stumps, any type of cover, and drop offs in the water. i love fishing in fallen trees. this can cause a lot of breakoffs! but thats where all the big ones are. so when fishing heavy cover you should go with a technique called “flipping and pitching” or “jig and pig” you can buy a jig at k mart or wallmart for about a dollar and are pretty much 99.9% weedless. i fished with a jig all day in cover and didnt break off once. a good trailer would be a berkley chigger craw. if you are unsure how to jig and pig or how to rig this lure just youtube it and google it. thats how i learned. and anytime is a good time to fish really. people say morning is the best but honestly my best bites are in the middle of the afternoon. nad if you do use a jig my preference for color is brown, green, blue, or black. and some jigs come with rattles on them! and if your not a jig type of guy then i would reccomend a zara spook. look into those to. its a great top water lure that gets amazing hits. my advice would be to fish it right next to or even on top of some cover. but its not weedless so be careful. and i prefer it in shallow water. anywhere from 1-3 feet. good luck and good fishing :)

Get some red slamanders about 4.5 inches logn and hook them weedless (look it up on google) put a small bulletweight before it and cast near long, lilly pads rockpiles and dead trees reel it inslowly .stoping every 2-4 feet to let it sink and jerk it. Try to keep it at a controlled depth.

    Okay,

This is a very broad question. They’re can be a lot of different answers to your question. It’s all in what kind of bait you like to fish, and which ones you have faith in. Maybe you like slow baits. If you know how to and like to fish soft plastics i would recommend giving them a try. Texas rig a 6″ plastic worm and throw it around cover. Let it sink to the bottom and twitch it. Maybe you like spinner baits? Just throw these baits out and retrieve them. VERY easy to fish. You like top waters? Try a buzz bait. It’s like a spinner bait, but is fished on top of the water, (AKA it floats). And maybe you like crank baits, or poppers, or swim baits, or BANJO MINNOWS or WALKING WORMS. It just is all in what you like to fish.

Okay, here’s an idea, go to Wal-Mart, or Bass Pro Shops or K-Mart or whatever and get some baits that you think will be good to try. See which ones you would like to fish. In the mean time, stop by and send me a message on any question you have about bass fishing. I will be glad to help you.
