How to catch Largemouth Bass in Montana?

Can I use 10 pound test line? Can I use a regular hook? Can I just use the worms I find at a gas station? Do they put up a fight?

Depending on the vegetation in the water. If there is no vegetation use around a 6 to 8lb test. In heavy vegetation use a 10lb. This rig is likely to work well for you. Use a lazer Sharp size 4. It’s a hook that has an angle before the eye of the hook and use white zoom trick worms. Attach to the hook by putting the head off the worm covering the small part by the head of the hook and stick the end of the worm over the barb. Cast into coverage rocks, vegetation preferably in a cove near creeks are prime bass areas. When you retrieve the worm twitch the end of the rod and let the line settle for about 10 seconds and reel in the slack and repeat. When you get a strike pull back hard to hook the fish and reel in.

The hook looks like this and rig the worm like the one shown.

Hope that helps! It’s hard to explain. A lot easier to show.

P.S. If you’re looking to use live bait, I’d use heavy line with a drop weight and a leader line of about 2 feet so when the weight hit’s the bottom the hook has the freedom to drift up off the bottom. I also prefer minnows hooked through jaw or back with no bobber. Let the line hit the bottom and and reel in the slack and feel for the strike. E-mail me if you need any more help!

    1) 10 lb. test is the best all around bass line. I would go with no lighter than 6, and heavier than 17. My favorite line of choice would be trilene.

2.) Yep. J shaped hooks work fine.

3.) Yes, worms will work, but you will catch more bluegills with worms than bass. Try live minnows. Chubs or shad.

4.) Yes. Other than carp, they are the best fighting fish i have ever caught. Great sport fish. Actually, there America’s #1 sport fish.

    Happy fishing.
